Eddie froze, some ancient instinct making him go cold from the inside out. He stood up and turned around, looking at the water - which was gone. Instead, a huge wave was forming on the horizon.

Buck’s heart hurt. He figured the poor kid had held on by pure adrenaline and was finally coming down, falling into shock as he realized his situation. He hugged Christopher close, whispering assurances to him and pressing a kiss to the wet curls.
He made a promise to himself to keep the boy safe if it killed him.

“Where did all the water go?”
Eddie froze, some ancient instinct making him go cold from the inside out. He stood up and turned around, looking at the water - which was gone. Instead, a huge wave was forming on the horizon.
“Oh my god,” Eddie whispered and then, acting on more of that instinct, he snatched Christopher up in his arms, yelling at him to hold on! and started to run .
“ Tsunami!” he screamed at the people around them. “Run, get to higher ground!” He didn’t check if anyone listened to him, just ran and ran and ran and -
The wave hit the pier, the noise was deafening, Christopher was immediately ripped from his arms and Eddie tumbled in the water like a bug caught in a current, no sense of where was up or down and all he could think of was Christopher, oh god, please, god, please, not my son!
He reached the surface with a gasp, greedily sucking in air, and tried to look around, frantically holding himself above water.
“ Christopher !” he screamed, coughing as water entered his mouth. “Christopher, where are you?!”
He didn’t hear an answer. He couldn’t see his son. He couldn’t- there were so many people, there were bodies, he couldn’t -
Something hit the back of Eddie’s head and he blacked out.
