Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

Most upvoted choices for Reddit thread “What city in your state does everyone in the state dunk on?”
by u/alexcass91
Californians dunk on Bakersfield?! I thought Los Angeles or San Francisco woulda gotten that honor, tbh….
if only you knew
I live in that city in Nebraska, and I gotta say… Fair enough
I thought us Ohioans would be dunking on Cleveland more
Toledo is Michigan Lite, at least cleaveland is loyal to ohio.

please pray for a family friend. i just found out she was run over in a parking lot and lost her leg in the process, already being in frail health.
Alright tell me in the tags, what’s Your Poem? That poem you heard once and it has dwelt within you ever since?
Just more proof that you fuckers don't know what the fuck capitalism is
All together now: Consumerism/corporate culture and capitalism ARE NOT THE SAME THING
You can be very against the soulless nature of today’s consumerist culture and be pro capitalism and free market. In fact I’d argue that consumerism, planned obsolescence and things like that are inherently harmful to capitalism and sort of cheat you out of the individual protections it affords.
FUCKING THANK YOU.
I’ve been debating to drop my job and do freelancing. I wonder, if I did a bunch of 3D commissions like these for 50-80 dollars. Would anyone be interested?
Can you do animals? If so I'd be VERY interested.
A very good thread about how every part of John Walker’s uniform is designed to be as unsettling as possible
God bless costumers, the unsung heroes of visual story telling.
I would also like to add a few observations from a design perspective. 1.assymetry unless done VERY cleverly, is far less appealing than symmetry. It's used regularly in villian design because it's meant to be off putting. 2. triangles. a really good way to denote a villian is to take note of the amount of sharp points are in the design. Cap's star is symmetrical and placed squarely on his chest. The symbol of hope mirroring Superman in a fashion. Knock-off cap? Shoving that A in the middle of the star on his helmet creates more angles, more sharp corners, more triangles. It hollows out the star, yes, but it also robs the star of it's proper symbolisim, hijacking it into something distinctly more sinister and domineering. It's almost reminicent of one's view as a child behing dwarfed and subdued by a much larger person, hands on hips and staring down at you. Knock-off-Cap isn't a servant of the people like Cap was,he's wanting domination 3. Triangles 2, art boogaloo. Those stripes on his chest, they taper. trace a line around thier whole design and you'll get the broken, but subtle, shape of an inverted Triangle. 4. Kindly take note of how little actual white is used in the design, almost as if it were a begrudging afterthought in a design that hedges rather close to Black and Red. The white might symbolize his hope of redemption. We might see dying heel face turn, possibly. OR it could simply be that the white is just too scarce to be saved. MOST of steeve's uniforms prominantly feature white front and center and proudly displayed. White on the American Flag itself symbolises Peace and innocence. You could make the argument that it'sapperance on Steve's uniform represents how much he embodied of that symbol at any given time. Also take note that Steves uniforms that do feature white, are very PROMINANTLY and obviously white, even in shadow. Knock-off Cap? his white bits are actually shades of grey. There's only one photo in that whole set where his star looks genuinely white. Every other picture it looks distinctly silver or grey. Perhaps another nod to the fact that his purity is corrupted, innocence lost. On top of the very sparse nature with which it's placed on the uniform. And as OP said, the uniform seems plastic, fake. That Sort of material reflects by nature. So the fact we're still seeing grey despite the highlights? That's intentional.
I don't think we should mislabel bad corporate practice as all Capitalism. Captitalism is a flawed system, like every system, but it isn't the cause of every problem that poor people or businesses face.
Like... An example is the classic: Out of date, but still edible, food being tossed out rather than put to any use.
What a Capitalist may do in this situation: Clearance Sale! Get some cheap snacks before they go bad!!!
What a generous person would do: Hey, guys. Come and get some free brrad if you need it. :)
What a government that aims to discourage charity and damage community strength would do: ACTUALLY, you both have to throw this food away and if you give it to anyone or sell it, you'll be fined.
THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. THISSSSSS!!!!
“It’s not that wet”
(via)
This cat strikes me as both fascinated by the sensation of the rain - the smell, sound, and feel of it - and completely mortified by the fact that it comes with being wet
This cat is like “I am enjoying approximately 75% of this experience but I’m not sure if it’s worth that other 25%”
Is that a serval?
Looks like a Savannah Cat or a Bengal. Savannah cats are wild/domesticated cat hybrids. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savannah_cat Judging from what I'm seeing I think it's a savannah cat.
