I headcanon since Sora is in Smash, Master Hand confiscated all Disney/Pixar movie worlds that Sora (or any other Keyblade Wielder) haven’t been in yet (including sequels) so when Sora does go to those worlds he won’t be spoiled & need to figure things out along the way. Sora is now trying to make a deal with Joker to steal all those movies now

Fortunately, being a “Phantom Thief”, Joker has a special card up his sleeve.

And now Joker is banned from browsing the internet in the Smash universe.

Remember this old headcanon? If this video is anything to go by, then Joker (and Xander Mobus!) got a lot better at singing using the Voice without straining himself. To the point it’s become Joker’s default singing voice. So he’s definitely used it a lot during his time in Smash…

…Imagine Master Hand’s reaction to seeing this kid belt out an entire song with a voice that sounds just like his.

Fun Fact: Xander Mobus, the guy who plays Joker and the announcer/Masterhand (I headcanon the latter two being the same individual), actually sung the first part of "Gotta Catch 'em All" in the announcer's voice and the footage is very easy to find. The VA is an absolute gem and the video is just ONE of the moments Joker was screwing around with MH's voice... then he just broke at the end.

The Hearts.

When Sora arrived at the Smash Universe, he immediately heard of someone stealing hearts. Preparing for the worst, and Xehanort, He immediately confronted this Phantom Thief of Hearts.

Imagine his surprise when he finds a barista that was making curry.

AkiRen soon explains that while they are talking about the same hearts, the one he’s actually stealing were the excess darkness inside everyone’s hearts as they became corrupted, not the entire heart.

So...have you noticed that the Smash wiki lists which move is set to what button for when you play as Master Hand? (On the Ultimate's page for him specifically) Another thing he has in common with Joker besides voice?

consider: galeem thinks that kingdom hearts runs on "light good, dark bad", and tries to recruit sora to his side. sora figures out that galeem murked a lot of people (including his friends on the spirit board) and quickly and fiercely kicks him to the curb. to this day, galeem is one of the few people that sora actually hates.

Sora Protection Squad

Practically every Smash fighter, whether they believe it or not, is a member of the Sora Protection Squad. Some of the squad’s most prominent members include Mario, Peach, Kirby, Pit (brown-haired good boy besties), Palutena, Cloud, Pyra/Mythra (Sora reminds them of Rex), and Duck Hunt (Sora pretty much adopted them since they remind him of Donald and Goofy).

Smash Bros. is Canon in Kingdom Hearts

Sora being in Smash Bros is actually going to be canon in the Kingdom Hearts Timeline. For real. Think about it.

At the end of Cloud’s story in Kingdom Hearts II, Cloud and Sephiroth disappear to “fight a great battle.” And then they are absent from Kingdom Hearts III.

At the end of Kingdom Hearts III, Sora abuses the power of awakening and his heart is thrust into the unknown (eventually to Unreality and, specifically, Quadratum in the end).

However, BEFORE he ends up in Quadratum, he simply awakens in mysterious, empty realm.

It is possible that, before he awakens, his heart was still traversing worlds.

And what world(s) just so happen to have their light dying out?

Hearts that need healing. And, in true Kingdom Hearts fashion, Sora’s heart is once again his guiding key to bring light to darkness.

(Also of note, Cloud and Sephiroth are the only 3rd party characters that are shown in this CGI trailer.)

In addition, the gameplay segment features direct interactions between Sora and Cloud/Sephiroth that are direct callbacks to KHI and KHII.

So, what does Sora do in Smash? He does what he has always done. He traverses worlds (stages) and interacts with hearts (fighters).

So, yes, I do think that Sora, Cloud, and Sephiroth being in Smash Bros. is 100% canon to the Kingdom Hearts timeline.

The way I see it, Cloud and Sephiroth travel to another “world” to fight “a great battle” at the end of Kingdom Hearts II - which is ultimately them in Super Smash Bros (from a narrative perspective, probably specifically The World of Light scenario, but that’s besides the point).

Later, at the end of Kingdom Hearts III and Re:Mind, Sora’s heart is lost and begins to travel the unknown. It then ends up in the same realm as Cloud and Sephiroth. In fact, I think that Sora’s heart’s connection to Cloud’s and Sephiroth’s is specifically why his heart ends up there from a narrative perspective (that, and the fact that a world’s heart is dying).

In the end, after the problems in “the Smash realm” (or whatever it should be called) are solved, Sora’s Heart continues to travel until he wakes up in that realm that eventually leads him to Yozora and Quadratum.

Now, do I think Nomura planned this ever since Kingdom Hearts II? Absolutely not. 

But, it all fits together too perfectly in retrospect. Nomura also loves to go back and give new context to old happenings in the series after new events have transpired. It is completely in Nomura’s character to put these pieces together and say it is canon.

I do not think that Smash Bros. will ever be directly mentioned in Kingdom Hearts as a prominent plot-point, but I very much expect there to be an indirect reference to Smash Bros next time Sora appears in Kingdom Hearts - maybe moreso if Cloud also returns and they have an interaction.

Anyway, Mario is the Master of Masters. Confirmed. Bye.

Despite a misunderstanding leading to a bad first impression at first (one steals hearts in a metaphorical sense while the other comes from a universe where ‘hearts’ are very similar to one’s soul (I think?) plus one’s more associated with darkness and the other with light), Joker and Sora actually become rather close- after all, both are very much cosmic playthings, nearly died at least once, their main archenemy is bald, have at least one talking animal companion, and most importantly, use friendship as power (but for Joker, it’s more literal due to the social link/confidant system in his game)

Joker would end up adding Sora to his ever growing list of adoptive younger siblings he’s gained during his own adventures.
