As a science writer, I really wanted to explore the meeting of the two universes that seemed to respond to physics and biology in wildly different ways.
Additionally, I love The Expanse. Like, inhumanly so. And if you like Star Wars, I hope that this inspires you to watch this amazing show.
Finally, I also wanted to write a neurodivergent love story between an ASD individual and a neurotypical individual. I hope that I have done it justice.

I wanted to get this up before episode 9. I know because I know the gut punch is coming, there no high with low in the x-men fandom.
The idea that Apocalypse came up with his grand plan to resurrect Gambit as Death only to immediately get killed is some Wile E. Coyote level shenanigans.
Meanwhile Gambit’s off doing exactly as nature intended.
He’s got dinner on the stove, a wedding to plan, and a jewel to steal. And unless your name is Rogue, you best get out of the way.

WIP Wednesday. Drew this up on my lunch break while kvetching with @maedelin over whatever that season finale of X-Men '97 was supposed to be.
Christ, that was so insane and confusing, I thought it was my ex-fiancé Lance shoving his unemployed, wood goblin ass into a cartoon.
Alas, it was not.
They did my boy Nur SO FUCKING DIRTY. He went from Ancient Egyptian Braveheart at the beginning of the season to Temu Thanos. Then they made him fall in love with Las Vegas Swamp Witch Barbie, who then ran off into the bayou until Gambit stabbed her during his goth wedding.
I can't tell if this actually happened or if it's because I'm plowing whiskey like it's the Civil War and a doctor is coming to saw my legs off.
That episode did happen, right.
Anyway.
Finally, after Apocalypse and Gambit become one, but not in a gay way, his ass is shoved into the Heart of the Ocean. Whether or not Cable will have a granny throw his bad self into the Atlantic after blithering on about banging Leonardo DiCaprio is anyone's guess. Titanic did come out in 1997, after all.
So, I found a screenshot of the last we see of Rogue, and made my own update of it based on my fanfic, where Nur says no to Eson and eventually finds Anna Marie in Westchester in the modern day.
He needed to stay heroic, and maybe it's the whiskey-lemon juice-cherry cocktail I'm mainlining, but god damn it, I stand on this.
Oh, and Kurt needed to stay alive. Fuck Plan 99, why the shitfuck is that here, keep it in Star Wars, fuck.
A haunting thought about the X-Men 97 Season 2 Finale...

The fact that the happiest ending for all the characters was for the two white people from the South to be sitting together in love while holding an open Bible is some FOX news-assed conservative bullshit.
Of course, the kind Christian immigrant died for their happiness.
I'm so fucking salty about Kurt dying. It's Plan 99 all goddamned over again.
In between this and alllll the fucking eyeliner every single male character was wearing I'm convinced they replaced Beau deMayo with JD Vance and you can't convince me otherwise.
Much as I loved Remy x Rogue in the 90's as a kid, it's done for me. I'm exhausted. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER STORIES?!?!
Rogue was so cool as a Celestial, and the Gambit-Apocalypse hybrid was one of the sickest character designs I have ever seen. Hearing Apocalypse's voice come out of Gambit's mouth was haunting.

What can I say? I love tall strong wavy haired misunderstood freaks and the redheads that get them to chill out with extra snuggles and kisses.
So that might be my actual marriage, I am the wavy haired freak and my husband's a ginger I DO NOT CARE.
Join me on this rarest of rarepairs, Nur and Rogue, as they fall for each other by the fire during Season 2 of Xmen 97 (Night and Stars and the Desert), and the AU where Nur doesn't become Apocalypse...and Rogue stays behind in Egypt with him.
