grant me the patience to "accept" the things i can't change (to the extent of "still being able to stay alive and function while those things are going on" but also the integrity to not accept accept them (like whenever i get the power to make ANY difference in the fight against those things I will seize it like a fucking lifeline every single time)

If you look at the ENCOM key card IDs all the characters (and background characters) have, they do not have a bar code, it's only their photos and name on the front. (Also, note that Ed is the only character that doesn't wear his ID card because he's a diva and it doesn't match his outfit lol)
For context, swipe key cards were invented in the 70's and RFID/ proximity cards were available to the mainstream in 1983. (Googled a few articles)
There is no card required to access the elevator or certain floors on-screen. You'd think R&D/ laser bay would be the most top secret one, but Alan just pushes the button with no pretense. There's a giant door outside, but technically, any stranger/ visitor might be able to just walk in the lobby and then take the elevator down. HOWEVER, this may be a special elevator core, as it's directly attached to Ed's office.
Here's the actual floor plan of 1150 S Olive Street, LA where the movie was filmed, elevators circled. Ed's office scenes were not shot at this building, as the catty-cornered pair of elevators are not on the plan.

When they're opening the big door, we see Lora take something out of her pocket and put it up to the door, but it's too dark to see if it's a type of card or physical key
After Lora says "I don't think I'm cleared for this"- implying it's an individual key assigned to her like her ID card- (which doesn't make sense because she works in the laser bay) Flynn puts his hacking device up to the door to open it.
But it seems to be cracking a passkey/ set of numbers instead of a bar code/ scan
When the gang gets inside, they are not wearing any of their ID badges. The guard doesn't care and just asks if they're "working late"
There are cameras in several places including the laser bay and cubicle farm.
Ed's office is interesting. And most of what we see is probably a personal decision: considering the bad stuff he's doing, I don't think it's company security. He has two cameras up on the soffits directly pointed at his desk and one in elevator hall.
Also, He has Peter watching his office when he's not there AND some form of access control that allows him to select "enter" or "do not enter when someone is approaching his office (calling back to the special elevator theory from earlier). Ed seemed to have caught on to the lack of company security and made his own....
In conclusion, It seems like it would be very easy to sneak into ENCOM and steal hardware. I don't think Flynn had to be a genius to figure that out (aside from log in credentials to access the terminals) just from what we see in the movie that literally occurs on-screen.
if you have like 5 hand tools and a can-do attitude congrats. youve solved 90% of your home maintenance problems. theres no need to ask and wait for other ppl to do it for you, or got forbid pay out the ass for maintenance guys. this is my universal advice for city dwellers
actually im not done. the 5 hand tools are a claw hammer, a screwdriver (the kind with swappable bits), combination pliers, an adjustable wrench, and a tape measure. now all you need is a phone with internet. go to yt and type in "how to do x". watch a 5 min video showing you how to do it. do it. congrats. you are now the handyman of the house and the world is your oyster

So i don't think of myself as a knowledgeable scholar of ancient Greece
more an interested observer who enjoys collecting and connecting bits of lore as a hobby.... and has been doing that more and more, as I've slid deeper into the very classically-inspired Tron fandom
But one thing that's intriguing me now:
I've posted before about the different kinds of love recognized in ancient Greece (Eros Philia Agape etc) and how I imagine they apply to the Tron world
And I've noticed lists of Greek words for love often include Xenia, which a host and guest are supposed to express for each other.
More a code of hospitality rules than an emotion, but definitely an important relationship in ancient Greece
And with Xenia being discussed more and more in the context of that Odyssey adaptation, I'm getting some half-formed thoughts about how Tron (1982) approaches that.

But just based on the discussion I've seen, I have a feeling it would be hilarious to try and list all the ways Xenia was violated by... MCP, Flynn, and basically everyone.
I have never looked up the etymology of the phrase "out of pocket" meaning "totally unreasonable and ridiculous" but in my pharmacy tech heart and soul I know that it means "like the amount your medication would cost without insurance"
One of my all time memories as an autistic child was being put in a "cant read" special class in kindergarten because I wanted to pick my own books as I was an extremely competent reader but they assumed the only reason I would ever want to do this was the books were too hard. The actual problem was I fucking hated Dora the Explorer as a child because I felt talked down to by her and they wanted me to read books about her. They refused to believe even after I proved it several times that I could read. Because I wouldn't read Dora.

I have some thoughts about what i think I've heard described as the "normalize loving your parents" phenomenon or something like that
The one that includes things like when you say "it's okay to love your parents," like it's a revolutionary hot take, within a community of people who widely don't love their parents and sometimes forget that it's considered very normal in the world in general
or when someone says "pregnancy doesn't get enough respect/accommodation as a form of disability," in an online group that widely supports both disability rights and choosing to be childfree... and the people who regularly deal with the world outside that group are weirded out, because Out There being pregnant usually gets you treated a lot better than being permanently disabled
or when two parts of any marginalized community are debating which one is more marginalized... and they're listing types of unfair treatment that they experience... and at least some of these unfair treatments are getting dismissed as Not Important, because they only ever happen within this particular intra-community infighting
basically.... my thought is just that sometimes it's important to recognize both sides of this.
1. it's important to remember when a common thing to say Within This Group is not actually common Outside the Group
2. but also important to remember that this does not make it insignificant. An opinion or behavior that you only ever see In This Group can still be really valid-- or really harmful-- or some combination of both. Inside The Group is still a real place with real people in it.
... I don't know if this thought fits in the category of "hot take here, normal everywhere else" or vice versa.
But I personally haven't seen many people act like they're thinking this way, anywhere.
