Hey everyone, I decided to take my writing here and turn it into a podcast. So if you have the time, please give it a listen, it would mean a lot to me.
I wonder what the Fantastic Four are up to while all this cult bullshit is happening. If the x-men are just the big superhuman outlier, then does that mean that things are business as usual for the FF?
If so does that mean that Franklin is still a mutant?
If so, Xavier is probably terrified of trying to use him for his cult bullshit. Franklin is basically God.
Shadow Over Westchester Annotated - Chapter One - Part 2
Sorry it's been a minute since my last annotation.
There isn't much going on here, but points go to Hank McCoy for his horribly perfect sense of alliteration.
Warren's a prick. That seems to be something carried over between fanfictions from this general time...but then again, I'm going based on two fics, so that's hardly a trend.
I'm noticing upon rereading that there's a lot of random capitalizations here. Is the writer of Shadows intending this to be the characters shouting over each other.
(There isn't a whole lot of meat to these sections, unlike X-Manson where everything was a kind of layered onion with all sorts of little bits to poke at.)
Just perfectly normal X-Men shenanigans before everything gets twisted and weird.
X-Manson Annotations Chapter 2 - Part 2 - SCOTT SUMMERS
in the X-Manson AU Scott and Alex were not raised in the orphanage by Mister Sinister and their parents did not get abducted by the Shi'ar. They died when a plane fell on their car. However, other aliens like the Kree do exist in this au. I don't know who Francis and Francine Fagan are, so if any die-hard comics fans know, please reach out to me.
Notice how similar their dialogue is to Jean's parents. Short, simple answers. But this time, without the aid of the interviewer. Strange.
Alex Summers is paralleling Sarah here. The timeline shows a brief stint at a psychiatric hospital. Then there's the boy's farm. Nathaniel Essex does exist in this story, but she's completely unconnected to the Summers brothers.
I don't know if I'm misreading this, but does that strike anyone as an odd thing to say about a child?
This is interesting. Scott didn't like Xavier's until he met Jean. Does this mean that Xavier wasn't mind-controlling anyone until later? If this is true, how complicit is Scott in the cult?
Alex seeing a picture of Jean will be important later when we get into the Maddie of it all.
This is inconsequential, but I find Scientologist Havok to be the funniest thing and don't know why.
X-Manson Annotated Chapter 2 - Part 4 - BOBBY DRAKE
This story was written in 2000 before Iceman was revealed to be gay. The story does have a slight bit of odd historical significance. In the comic's Bobby's father is a homophobic tradcath. Here, he is a crossdressing gay man. Ironic.
Carmen initially made me think about Carmen Pryde, Kitty Pryde's dad. But that isn't the case. Carmen is either the drag persona or the preferred name of a character named Gilbert Weinstein by Bobby's mother. I'm not sure if the character is meant to be trans or a crossdresser or if Doctor Benway is mixing the two together. Because it seems that William is a gay man, but it's also possible that in this au the narrator is not really sure what the difference is between Pride flags.
Note that I said, narrator. Because Kitty Pryde (and some other aspects) is a narrator and this is how the story is framed.
Here, Madeline Drake breaks with the previous trend. She's the parent who knows an equal amount about the situation as the person she's meant to push up against. So her speech patterns are equally long or short depending on the section. She's still a piece of shit, don't get me wrong.
I don't know if Laszlo is a reference to anything. But I think the very obvious implication of Madeline talking about "all those lies about Laszlo" implies that perhaps Bobby was being sexually abused by the man. As we later learn, this wouldn't be totally out of character for the man.
It's also very telling that she didn't even need to be manipulated by Xavier into sending away Bobby.
See.
Okay, William's line here, "He sounded happy, just like he'd sound when his mother was listening in, before the divorce."
This implies that Bobby wasn't being puppeted by Xavier. Perhaps physically or mentally coerced in the usual sense into keeping up the happy-go-lucky facade of the school. But why? Xavier later uses mental control to make his students stay in line.
Okay, here's another thing. Bobby's body was in the lake for ten years at least. There's five others.

I'm not sure who Dwight Hammer is, if he's a deep-cut reference, please let me know.
Hello, I've tried these other places. And I've tried it on here. I'm trying to find anyone who has any thoughts on this. X-Manson was a fanfiction written for the X-Men fandom in 2000 by Doctor Benway. I'm trying to uncover all of its secrets so if you can, please help me. This will be the shortest annotation page because this chapter is the shortest, i'll probably break up the next into multiple chunks. If you have any thoughts please message me, comment on, or reblog with your thoughts and I will reblog it in turn.
The she of this is Kitty Pryde. I don't know how old she's meant to be here. As of this moment, this little slice of the present. She has been on the run for ten years (probably).
The Balding Emaciated Man is #ScottSummers, one of the "Oriental" women is Betsy Braddock and the other, I cannot identify, but I speculate one is probably Jubilee or Karma. One of the other women is confirmed to be Jean Grey.
(The story Vanderbylt was sold by Xavier is true to comics Xavier. Xavier is directly descended from the Graymalkin family who are dutch in origin. Though, here Xavier's history is a mystery. That's a rhyme, so you know it's fun.
The Roster Stands at seven by Miss Grundy's count:
Charles Xavier
Logan
Bobby Drake
Hank McCoy
Scott Summers
Warren WorthingtonIII
Jean Grey
I think she is exaggerating about the nature of her being manipulated psychically by Xavier. Pay attention to the Pate Line.
Another reference to Tangiers.
(Erich, the more correct spelling of Erik. He has this name because it was written in 2000 before Magneto was given the name Max Eisenhardt. We see Tangiers again. Why was holocaust survivor Gabrielle Haller in Morocco? Cain Marko is referenced here, which is odd. Any thoughts on that?)
(Warning if you haven't read it yet, there is a description of S.A. This presents a darker version of the conception of David Haller.)
(I have no idea who Georg is, i googled his name and I was presented with Jörg Haider, former leader of the Freedom Party of Austria.)
Anti-Zionist Magneto
Worldbuilding shows how Erich Lehnsherr has changed the world by existing within it.
Shadow over Westchester Annotated Chapter 1 - Part 1
We're looking at a 2001 fanfiction by Kerrie Smith that fuses the worlds of the X-Men and H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos folks. I know I said that I would be covering a more lighthearted series, but it's been months and I've recovered from the annotations of X-Manson.
We start off with a flashback and we have Charles and Erik as professors at Lovecraft's Miskatonic University. This is written in the usual prose style of fanfiction rather than the documentary style of X-Manson.
Pi, a 1998 psychological horror movie about an unemployed number theorist. the quote here is from the beginning of the movie where the protagonist describes suffering from eye damage as a child and the resulting headaches he suffers from in adulthood.
The ugly pendant that bobby is wearing is some version of the Elder Sign, which can be used as a deterrent against different types of eldritch horrors.
Even in a world where he created the X-Men using eldritch superscience, Xavier still likes branding and superhero names.
*Bobby, you're gay and neither you nor the writer realize that yet.
X-Manson Annotated Chapter Three - Part 7 - THE RAID
So, Ariel's arrival, Betsy's kidnapping, and The Raid all happened very close together.
Did Gabrielle mean to say the "Korean conflict" here? It's not listed among his accomplishments earlier in the story. But his resolution to the Vietnam War is mentioned.
*God Loves, Man Kills Reference. There's something real ironic about cult leader Charles fighting with a fundie with murderous intent.
**I'm not sure what Warren's thing in L.A is.
God Loves, Man Kills was released in 1982. So, we may be two years into the future, or here the events are still happening in 1980. I like to imagine most of God Loves, Man Kills still happens but nobody learns anything from it.
Vance needs to just shut the fuck up about The Avengers.
*another instance where the interviewer thinks Emma manipulated the students.
**Pricey trip in a cab, Doug.
Tarot is still a mutant in this AU. But there's no mention of her power. Does this mean that maybe instead of bringing to life figures from Tarot cards, she's a mild precog?
*What was left of the helicopter? Did someone destroy the helicopter?
**The Rolls pulls up with Xavier, Logan, Summers, and Grey
Everyone left at the house:
Piotr and Sean.
I have no doubt that either one could take out a helicopter on their own. But there is one factor that nobody has considered. Another person who could down a helicopter that isn't potentially being mind-controlled is Ororo. And nobody knew she was there.
*see there's a lingering after-effects of a storm blowing around, maybe Ororo's powers are less precise than in the comics.
*The armory is real and Xavier does have a room full of guns in the comics. My man's unhinged.
**The way that he's talking here with the door that opens onto a balcony reminds me of The Runaways where the group watches their parents in The Pride doing the human sacrifice. This predates that by several years, so they're probably both drawing on something from somewhere else.
I think this is the first mention of Cable.
Now our Nathan count stands at a possible 2.
This feels very comedic, definitely an "Oh Shit" moment.
Tear gas grenades. People crawling out of windows everywhere makes it feel like there are more people not identified by Doug or the documentary crew.
Marie-Ange Interruption Count: 1.
It's possible he was also forced to remember The Holocaust by either Xavier or Cable. Just like in the popular meme.
@gerrysherry you make a very good point, that would be enough to trigger anyone, especially a holocaust survivor's ptsd and render them catatonic again.
We don't really have a naming convention for them other than Alaskan/Homeless so I'm thinking Rogue's team can be the straight team and Cyclops' is the queer one.
On the left, starting from the top...
Juggernaut - Gay AF. Has been an unstoppable bottom and true love of Black Tom Cassidy since the 60s.
Magik - Pan, even through Marvel's cowardly behaviour.
Beast - Bi, but really not interested in sex or romance rn. OTP Wonder Man - the other half of comics' first M/M kiss. Clones are queer, it is known.
Magneto - is Magneto.
Thot Summers - Definitely a wife guy, but it's not his fault Brevoort broke up the lunar polycule. Says acab and is a twink again.
Idie/Temper - Grey Ace.
Psylocke - Not sure tbh but IMO queer until proven otherwise. Trans-coded.
Kid Omega - An egg waiting to crack.
On the Right
Look, they're either children or being portrayed as aggressively hetero and monog (or as a fucking priest for some reason.) Even if there's queerness it's all vibes anyway.

Oh, definitely. I've been back in the x-bitches trenches since xmen 97 and the idea of a xmen cult investigation is just ough, chefs kiss 😫. Even better if this one has the new mutants AND scratches that re-animator love for me
