In the Weight of Waiting
March 29th , 2015
I thought this new life would heal us, A hope carried softly within, A future that promised something pure. But his carelessness spills like unchecked rain, Flooding the spaces where trust should grow.
Instructions say, "Be gentle, be cautious, take care," But coffee, sugar, and careless hands Reach for me, Urging what should be avoided. He says, "Don’t lift, don’t stress, don’t worry," But he fills the plate with what harms, While lecturing me on how I should look.
Confusion drips into every corner, Promises made, now unraveling, Work we were to share is a distant echo, A lie dressed in hope’s fragile threads. He drifts farther, hides in the hours, Taking up more, staying away, While I wait—alone with this growing life.
Was he wishing this burden would fade, An invisible prayer to erase what he cannot face? A disappointment he cannot name? Yet here I stand, holding the weight Of two hearts, one fragile, one uncertain.
He says he will be gone, Even after the cries begin, Gone, while I carry what he once feared. Once a liar, always a liar, And still, I pray that love will return Before it slips through our trembling fingers.
