It is a thrilling story that shows us Elena's growth without the Salvatore and her friends, how she can be someone else when nobody is looking and it is slightly Mystic Falls' gang bash, but not free hate, it's well built to show even Elena and Caroline struggling to keep their friendship and respect each other's choices on life.

If you dislike anti-Damon Salvatore fanfiction/speech.
Otherwise this piece of work is mainly focused on Elena getting over Damon after all he put her through (I do recommend you read the first part that is a 9k words one-shot but you will do just fine if you do not read it) making her relationship with the Mikaelson brothers very slow-burn, although enjoyable.
