#the duo we never knew we needed
Of all the militarisation the GL’s underwent when Johns took them on, likely as a result of 9/11, I think the only one I sincerely enjoy is Hal joining the military because I find his consistent paternal-seeking behaviour a fascinating aspect of his character. Joining the institution that represents the most insidious parts of masculinity in order to feel closer to the warmth of your father, having that decade old wound salted just to emulate that membrane-thin memory of what the man was like. Hal’s endless self-mutilation to satisfy his need for a father drives me INSANE.
I know that smile... what do you have in mind? You're going to love it.

one of my favourite things about psych as a sherlock holmes variant is that it nails the freak4freak dynamic of the original, specifically gus being the watson to seeming like the normal, well-measured counterpart to shawn's insanity until he's spotted 3 meters away doing the same thing if not worse
I’m sorry but everyone needs to stop glossing over Scott having devastating soul bonds with every character in Teen Wolf… MY GUY WASN’T HEALING BECAUSE HE THOUGHT DEREK WAS DEAD 😭😭😭

I was not fucking joking about the Parallax Hal vs Phoenix Cyclops venn diagram. Forgot to add how they both specifically killed their mentor who was trying to talk them down from crimes they were committing and how killing them specifically is seen as a moral event horizon within the text but ANYWAYS. This venn diagram is specific to these versions of them, but as just Dudes they also have a HUGE overlap in traits: - they're both sons to men who flew military aircraft and died while piloting them (or at least appeared to for Scott) and they grew up wanting to do the same - regularly fly jets in their adulthood, somewhat fulfilling that dream - they grew up wanting to become their fathers and even still feel that way as adults despite their complex relationships with them - abused by a father figure - indoctrinated and used as a soldier in a war far bigger than themselves and groomed into being a figurehead for a superhero organisation - over the years grows disillusioned by the organisation/those running it (and this growth is summarily ignored/retconned by newer writers) - seen as the epitome of that organisation for DECADES (everyone saying Hal Jordan is the best GL blah blah/"I am the X-Men") - leaves and rejoins 38798575345 times because they realise they have no life outside of it/when they try to leave they just get dragged back into it no matter what they do - seen as a law-abiding goody two shoes and is generally watered down and/or misunderstood by audiences at large I could continue but you get the idea.
