Dani learns that Slobo is suffering from clone degeneration, and now she's ugly crying and refuses to let go of Slobo. Nobody can get her off him.
Dani’s sobs broke all of their hearts. She hugged Slobo tightly, nearly crawling onto his lap. Slobo sighed, his face pinched in discomfort before he said, “Hey, calm down. I’m not dead yet.”
“B-B-But…! You’re dying!” Dani sobbed. She buried her face into Slobo’s skinny shoulder and he sighed again, patting her back awkwardly.
“Not yet. My eyes… are just going bad, that’s all.” He looked at the others for help. “C’mon, get her offa me. Say something! ‘Nita?”
Anita was also tearing up, mostly prompted by Dani’s desperate crying. Everyone else looked at each other, expressions of heartbreak and sorrow on their faces, unable to speak.
Anita finally whispered, “Dani… you should get off of him, mon."
Kon reached out to rub at her shoulders, both to comfort her but also to start pulling her back.
Dani didn't let go, grabbing and holding on tightly to Slobo's leather jacket.
Her hitching sobs and whimpers grew louder, making their hearts twist into knots.
"... c'mon, Dani, don't be like this—"
Suddenly, Dani burst out, "I know how it feels! When your body breaks down and you can't do anything— when you're too weak to change how your body is falling apart at the seams— I know how it feels!"
Everyone froze.
Kon stuttered out first, "W-What—?!"
Dani continued, oblivious to the horrified gazes around her, "I know how it is because I've felt it before too! But it's okay! My origin found a solution for me, so since yours isn’t here, I'll find a solution for you! We'll definitely cure you, Slobo! Definitely! Y-You can't die, okay?!"
She sobbed harder, still clutching at him. Slobo could not see the reactions of the others very well, but he could still sense the disbelieving shock that pervaded the room.
... just what bomb had Dani just dropped onto them?
