For myself, writing is the only hobby that I think I can do well. I love reading, really love reading. While some people like to read novels but not textbooks, I'm the type who really likes to read everything even if it's just textbooks.
I'm not a quiet person, but I'm a lonely person and don't really know how to tell a story without being overbearing.
And the more you read, the higher your standards become. I've read a lot of things, starting with the really lame ones and working my way up to discovering what genres I actually like. And during this reading journey, I commented a lot on the writing I read. Not directly to the author of course, I'm afraid of making others feel hurt.
'Maybe it should be like this', 'ah, I thought it would be more exciting if the story was like this', 'the ending wasn't satisfying', 'the theme was fun, but the way the story was told wasn't cool' blablabla
And finally I tried to write and publish my story. I learned a lot of things too, found fun things, interesting experiences, and I like to sharpen my fantasy brain.
I've been reading fanfics at the age of 12? And now I'm 21. Reading and writing is a very exciting experience to try.
Especially for me who doesn't really have a busy life, I like to write down whatever I think about. And I've firmly made it a hobby.
Because as fun as it is to write fanfic, let alone original work, I'm a person who easily gives up and hates myself. And I don't want to hate the only hobby I have that I can do without spending any money, it just takes time.
I love to read, I love to write, and I use fanfic as a way for me to express my opinions about the novels I'm currently passionate about.
