Billy is racist. It’s canon, it was confirmed by the Duffs, and its pretty fuckin obvious (tells max not to hang out with someone like Lucas, he then grabs Lucas and attempts to harm him when he find out Max is hanging out w him)

He emotionally manipulates Max any chance he gets

He picks fights with Steve and tries to intimidate him at school

He calls women cows 

He attempts to kill Steve 

Steve on the other hand…. 

helped fight the Demogorgon with Nancy and Jonathan (even tho he was mad at both of them at the time)

dumps his crappy friends when realizing how crappy they are

respects Nancy’s feelings when he realizes she doesn’t love him back

gives advice to Dustin and even drops him off at his dance

and helps protect the kids from demodogs

defends the kids from Billy’s violence 

Most of the Harringrove shippers are either straight girls who are fetishizing gays w two white men.. or they are (self-admitted) abusers who see Billy as some sort of abuser representation and wish they had someone like Steve to manipulate and abuse. The only other reason would be because they like steve/billy’s looks, which at that point its like.. are you fucking shipping the actors here.. because you can’t just erase everything Billy is and still say its Billy..
