A bounty connects him to an unlikely ally in the honourable and seemingly perfect knight Ryder van Taros, promising them riches beyond all imagining. The best part is, no one should get hurt in the process. All they need to do is recover an ancient artefact fabled to have terrible magical properties: the Quickening Blade.

Together, they embark on a journey of discovery, both about themselves, each other, and the world they live in, but they soon learn that some stories should remain forgotten.
