So I had this half lucid dream where I was swimming in a lake with my crush and his friends and we climbed up onto this very low dock that dipped just a little below the water. I thought “Oh I want to hold a water animal!” and what I WANTED was a dolphin, but my brain couldn’t quite conjure the image of a dolphin, nor could I recall the word “dolphin”.

So after much thought as to what a dolphin looked like, a giant banana with floppy banana peel dog ears, banana peel fins, and two beady black eyes hauled itself into my lap from the waters of the lake.

And I remember thinking “... Now wait... something is not quite right with this...”

I sat looking it over for a moment until I realised, “Oh I forgot a tail!” so when I looked down, the creature had a fish tail, and I was Quite Proud of how well I had recalled what a dolphin looked like from memory, and it deserved to be drawn:

Jade Mountain Prophecy Dragonets stylized designs

Design Notes:

Winter: Icewings grow pretty slow, so I kinda just wanted to make him look (?) kinda uncomfortable (?). I used straight lines and kind boxy-ness and his jewelry looking kinda out of place to represent his desperation to follow the rules, and how much he hates doing so. Icewings get most of their Icewing traits at adulthood, antlers, scary spikes, but before that, they're mostly just fluffy, so I rounded out his spikes to make them look more like tufts of fur.

Kinkajou: I don't actually have a very good grasp on how I want to characterize her, but I wanted to show how she's definitely a pretty angry soul, I see her as being very spiteful and clever and I wanted to show that through the hints of reddish-pink as a darker color for her feathers, and the sky blue in her eyes, which means focus. I also wanted to make her look like a parrot.

Qibli: His design is kinda a no-brainer! He's really easy to design lol. I wanted to show off his sandwing-ness by doing very little color variation and using gradients, and of course, his freckles. Dragons cant realistically have freckles, but leopard geckos have spots, so I just continued his freckles down his neck. I specifically styled his hair like a mullet, and he's probably going to end up a girl throughout his time at JMA and also a butch lesbian.

Moon: Her!!! I really like panther-looking nightwings, and since she grew up in the rainforest I made her look more Mammal like, i know this is not how biology looks but,,, if your a nightwing and you like the rainforest you look like a big cat and if you dont you look like a big lizard. I put a little crescent moon on her neck, my brother's cat has this little marking on her neck, and I thought it would be cute if I added it for moon. I also curved her horns to look like moons!

Turtle: I really like comparing Moon and Turtle, so they're supposed to look similar on purpose. I actually didn't really know what to do with his design! I wanted seawings - or atleast some, to look like sea lions, so I did that, and I added turtle-like markings. His seawing spots look like tears running down his neck, similar to moon's teardrop markings. Another note is that I wanted him to be shaped oppositely to Peril, so he is round and droopy. He also probably ends up a girl after JMA and also probably becomes queen of the seawings because that would be really cool

Peril: Her name is So Fucking Cool. Sorry, anyway. I really like making skywings bird like, so I made her flames look kinda like that little bird tuft (?) that they have on their head (?), and her flame/markings look like bird feathers, at least to me, and I'm actually really happy with that... Her design was kinda just a no-brainer to me... so i cant really say much... 100th phoenix peril design ...

ignore me also planning out my AU storyline in this, everyone in the prophecy is trans/gender queer. I really like brainstorming LMAO i hope this gave you a laugh, and sorry for any weird wording, it is very late in the night for me!!!

Winter interacts with scavenger Qibli!

I’m thinking about how Qibli ends up being a scavenger (if he was animus touched or if this is an alternate AU. If it is, I fear Winter would be very different, since his environment would basically be empty and forlorn w/o Qibli. Hmmm I’ll think on it)

Also thinking about making this a fanfic lwk so I’m gonna keep my ideas to myself for now…

(I promise I’ll finish it this time, thinking maybe one shot or 5 chaps at most)
