Is it controversial of me to say that I think Jason could've beat Percy if Hera and Rick didn't nerf him

Jason had been in the demigod world for 13 YEARS. 1 with Lupa, 12 with Camp Jupiter and the Roman Legions. He most likely has expertise in bare hand to hand combat, swords, knifes, spears and many other weapons.
Percy has know he's a demigod for 5 years I believe as of HOO. (This is my controversial take) The only reason people say Percy would win in a fight is because they're biased. And maybe I'm biased! But it wouldn't be entirely their faults.

I love him so so so much. BUT HOLY FUCK. He nerfed Jason so hard. It's like he knew Jason had the potential to be a stronger character.

But no. Rick took Jason and made him pass out 11 times (I heard this from somewhere else, may be the wrong number) over 4 books. You cannot convince me that's not him taking Jason out of the story because people didn't like him and he had the potential to be stronger.
If Jason had gotten back all his memories? Ooh boy everyone would be fucking scared that boy was trained within an inch of his LIFE.
My conclusion! Jason with his memories could beat Percy. Jason without them would put up a good fight, but Percy would win.

YES OMG HE LITERALLY TRAINED FOR OVER A DECADE, HE DEFINITELY WOULD’VE EXPLORED A RANGE OF WEAPONS AND GOTTEN TO LEARN HOW TO USE THEM, BUT DID WE GET TO SEE THAT? NOOOO
I'm so mad that Ivlivs got destroyed and most of the time that Jason had it, it was always a sword, we got to see it turn into a lance, but we never got to see Jason really get to use it??? The only time that I'm aware of the fact that he's actually “used” it was in the fight in Mount Diablo and even then it broke before the actual fight. So we never got to see his potential with the lance, which would've been SO COOL.
Since up until then, most of the characters weapons are kind of like a signature almost (correct me if im wrong, I haven't read the original series in like two years), Percy has Riptide, Annabeth a dagger, Nico with his sword, the Hunters with bows and arrows, and say Luke with his sword. There's rarely any characters who openly wielded two more different kinds of weapons. It would’ve been refreshing to get to see more variety and I just think in general none of the books really showcase the lance. I think getting shown a character that uses a melee weapon that also acts as a long distance weapon would’ve been such a change.
Like the different ways of fighting, and what strategies to utilize with it would’ve been extremely interesting compared to another fight where the character has a sword and stabs the monster. The lance is quite long, so you would need a lot more skill to like hold and wield it in a way that’s efficient so you don’t accidentally hit yourself or other people around you. A lot of the times in fights within Rick Riordan’s books are in groups, you’re either fighting a multitude of different enemies or working together to battle a major one. Either way there has to be a lot of coordination to work around all the people, and balance is required for wielding it. It would’ve been such a change to see the difference in fighting with a sword and compare it to the challenges with fighting with a weapon such as the lance, but I feel also refreshing. With Percy, I would say that he’s a natural with Riptide so he’s never really had that much of a challenge with it, so that’s not really explored.
Maybe it’s just me, but I want to explore the difficulties of different weapons, why certain ones don’t work with certain characters. Like you’re not going to give a bow and arrow to someone who’s short and quick and better hands on, you’re probably going to give them a more short ranged weapon because they can get close to the enemies and attack from there. We never really get to see why a character has the weapon that they have, in the sense that a lot of the characters were just given that weapon and rolled with it because it’s what they have. We got introduced to Annabeth with a dagger, Frank with a bow and arrow, and Nico just appeared with his sword later on. The only time that I remember this happening was with Piper, and I want to see more of it.
Jason has the lance, meaning most likely he had the knowledge and skill to wield it, but every time we’re seen Jason fight he’s using a gladius/sword, which, yes, that might be due to the fact that it’s his main choice of weapon and the one he’s most comfortable with, but it would’ve been possible in situations that Jason got a different weapon. Like in the fight with Porphyrion, what if he didn’t get a sword and instead got like a dagger or something (though to be fair he mostly used his power here, I was trying to remember a moment where he lost his weapon and had to use another one). There were so many different options but Jason was purposely written as someone who competes against Percy. A lot of what we know Jason is there to parallel Percy.

2 guys and a girl, the “leader” and the girl are dating, the 2nd guy and the girl knew each other beforehand (which this one, to be fair made more sense storywise), the 2nd guy is the “leader’s” best friend
I just think Jason in general had SO MUCH potential but due to how he was written off into the sidelines it was never explored. I desperately wanted to know more about this past, what he did at his time in Edgarton, and what would’ve been his future. Though his character was ended just for the sake of another one, which does make sense for his character (I guess) but I do really want to see what would’ve happened if he didn’t die or had his character absolutely ignored in the favour of another.
Genuinely I would have preferred Jason to specialise in the lance/spear because the only characters that used them were mostly side characters, Clarrise and Thalia, so I would have loved to see how he'd fight and how that'd mix up fight scenes, but NOOOO SwOrD cOoL aNd Go SwIsH sWiSh
omg, lowk forgot that clarrise and thalia also had spears/lance-
but i feel like my point still technically stands because theyre more of side characters that appear once in a while and so having the pov character use a lance/spear wouldve been really really cool, but yea

a lot of the fighting with swords is like swish swish block stab block slice etc etc PLEASE GIVE SOME VARIETY
honestly wouldve been pretty cool to have a character that just uses a gun or smth as well, but that kind of takes away from the whole one-on-one battle aspect thing
i have this vision in my head where when jason fights he switches between a lance and a sword iykwim
like if hes near the enemy its going to be a sword, but then he ducks and is farther away, he flips his coin and it becomes a lance that way he can still deal some damage despite being at a distance
and he can use ivlivs's coin form also to his advantage, where being more pocket sized it's easier to move with (like ducking, sliding, etc.) without accidently jamming it into himself

There's so many weapons and every other character has a sword, the ones you listed, yes, but Annabeth loses her knife and gets the bone sword, Hazel's spatha is a long sword if I'm not mistaken, and in the og series Luke was a swordsman, and Ethan aswell yeah? It's just so much GIMME VARIETYY

A lot of the times in fights within Rick Riordan’s books are in groups, you’re either fighting a multitude of different enemies or working together to battle a major one. Either way there has to be a lot of coordination to work around all the people, and balance is required for wielding it. It would’ve been such a change to see the difference in fighting with a sword and compare it to the challenges with fighting with a weapon such as the lance, but I feel also refreshing. With Percy, I would say that he’s a natural with Riptide so he’s never really had that much of a challenge with it, so that’s not really explored.
Maybe it’s just me, but I want to explore the difficulties of different weapons, why certain ones don’t work with certain characters. Like you’re not going to give a bow and arrow to someone who’s short and quick and better hands on, you’re probably going to give them a more short ranged weapon because they can get close to the enemies and attack from there. We never really get to see why a character has the weapon that they have, in the sense that a lot of the characters were just given that weapon and rolled with it because it’s what they have. We got introduced to Annabeth with a dagger, Frank with a bow and arrow, and Nico just appeared with his sword later on. The only time that I remember this happening was with Piper, and I want to see more of it.
Jason has the lance, meaning most likely he had the knowledge and skill to wield it, but every time we’re seen Jason fight he’s using a gladius/sword, which, yes, that might be due to the fact that it’s his main choice of weapon and the one he’s most comfortable with, but it would’ve been possible in situations that Jason got a different weapon. Like in the fight with Porphyrion, what if he didn’t get a sword and instead got like a dagger or something (though to be fair he mostly used his power here, I was trying to remember a moment where he lost his weapon and had to use another one). There were so many different options but Jason was purposely written as someone who competes against Percy. A lot of what we know Jason is there to parallel Percy.

2 guys and a girl, the “leader” and the girl are dating, the 2nd guy and the girl knew each other beforehand (which this one, to be fair made more sense storywise), the 2nd guy is the “leader’s” best friend
I just think Jason in general had SO MUCH potential but due to how he was written off into the sidelines it was never explored. I desperately wanted to know more about this past, what he did at his time in Edgarton, and what would’ve been his future. Though his character was ended just for the sake of another one, which does make sense for his character (I guess) but I do really want to see what would’ve happened if he didn’t die or had his character absolutely ignored in the favour of another.
Genuinely I would have preferred Jason to specialise in the lance/spear because the only characters that used them were mostly side characters, Clarrise and Thalia, so I would have loved to see how he'd fight and how that'd mix up fight scenes, but NOOOO SwOrD cOoL aNd Go SwIsH sWiSh

Percy has know he's a demigod for 5 years I believe as of HOO. (This is my controversial take) The only reason people say Percy would win in a fight is because they're biased. And maybe I'm biased! But it wouldn't be entirely their faults.

dare I say it would’ve been more interesting to see that jason is a better swordsman/skills based fighter whereas percy is far better with controlling the elements of poseidons domain??? it would’ve made such an interesting contrast between the way the two of them were raised and the differences between CJ & CHB????
