Currently 13,000 words into writing an Aralas fic where one of the main themes is the two of them at times not quite fitting in with their respective peoples, and for Legolas, I'm finding a strange amount of inspiration from this gif:

Because when you look at the Lorien elves behind him, they are all holding the same resting stance, with their bows raised from the ground and held at waist height, as a good elven archer would.

But then, there's this little Mirkwood Prince standing at the front, with a PRICELESS Lorien bow, and its end is on the floor while he's leaning on it like it is a worthless broom, and they are all internally losing their collective minds.

Legolas doesn't understand, because having grown up in a less peaceful realm, he sees weapons as practical things, and though this is a beautiful bow, if it cannot bear his weight then it has no worth anyway.

i love fics that feel so... grown. fics about adults that were written by adults who have years of life experience under their belts who pour that into their writing. fics where you can tell this is a person who has lived through a marriage or a divorce or a child or children or parent death or any number of Huge Life Events because the way they write with an emphasis on the highs and lows of the human experience rather than an emphasis on tropes (not throwing shade) is just so. oh man, it's just so fucking good. if my blorbos are grown men, grown women, grown people, i love it when they feel like grown people, not just extensions of the (young) author's imagination. (still not throwing shade). you know?

There's so much lost potential there, in my opinion. Can you imagine gifting Rad-X/Away being the equivalent of giving someone lingerie, or a sex toy? Taking a Rad-X from across the room while your partner watches to show them you're turned on in a low-key way? Your partner frenching you a Rad-X? Amazing sex followed by lots of tender aftercare which includes your partner taking care of you while you're basically immobilized as you're given RadAway?
