hi, filipino here. just want to say that our independence day is june 12, not july 4. july 4 is when the united states government decided that they would recognize our freedom, specifically because it is your independence day and they wanted to cement their cultural hegemony over our country. and because of their influence on our country this was recognized for a time as our independence day. we still commemorate it, but i hope you can understand why we don’t want our independence day to be associated so closely with our former colonizer. it wasn’t even a work holiday for us.
june 12 is the day that we filipinos declared our own independence for ourselves, and that is what we celebrate as independence day

Major/Lieutenant Colonel Sam being the brains WITH brawn (and a crack shot to boot) of SG-1, saving our Galaxy a dozen times over while getting the respect she deserves from her peers. Doesn't let something like a little crush on her Commanding Officer slow her down. Literally her ONLY drawback is the occasional bout of poor writing.
Goes through hell over and over without hesitation and always manages to pull her team out of the fire, kicking many asses along the way.

Okay but for real we need to talk about this more. For so long I thought there was something wrong with me because I only used pads. I was CONVINCED everyone else used tampons because that was normal and they were normal and I was just broken. Don’t ask how I became convinced, I just was.
Cut to my current job and the Gen Z kids are so open. They all talk about the products they use, when they start, their symptoms, none of it is taboo. And the most shocking thing to me, all of them use pads, for the same reasons I do. No one is treated as broken or weird. Periods are just a thing that we all experience and it sucks.
I’m not sure how tiny me got so anxious over what device I used to contain blood. But I hope that me, and others, talking about it now helps other people be less anxious about using whatever they like to contain blood. Cause like, it’s really not that deep.
imo the term "walkable" in "walkable cities" should be understood to mean "wheelchair accessible" as well, not just literally "possible to walk in". the act of walking in a city doesn't automatically make it walkable

Coming to Stargate from Star Trek, it's like, 'FUCK your prime directive.' It's so funny.
Like Trek has all these episodes where the prime directive causes the plot. At it's silliest, it's an excuse for our heroes to have to dress up as gangers. At it's grandest, it's the hinge point of an excrutiating moral dilemna. And Stargate just says 'fuck that noise.' There are so many episodes where the team's arrival is actively harmful to the planets' natives. And sometimes our guys go 'whoopsie doopsie' before moving on, but sometimes they don't. It's hilarous and perfect and such an (unintentional?) indictment of the US Military. I love it so much.
