I am on episode 8 of season 1 of Game of Thrones and so far:

nice show, enjoy it a lot. it's entertaining

but

WHAT THE EVERLOVING SHIT IS GOING ON WITH THE SEASONS???

are seasons purely magical? do they have "small seasons" that happen over the course of a year (like our seasons) and "big seasons" that last longer (kind of like an ice age)? how do they measure years? I found that quote by grrmartin that they do that by the solar cycle, but how do they track that? "just" by looking at the stars? or do they having changing day lengths (like we do)? if its the later than that would mean changing weather over the course of the year, but that would be different to the thing they call summer or winter, wouldn't it? Because so far it sounds like its summer when the weather is mild and winter when the weather is cold. Like how they have been 9 years of summer. But then there is one scene where Cat says something about "snow in summer" (in a place where that's not normal for mild years), but wouldn't the snow mean that it's now winter? because that's a cold weather sorta thing?

relentlessly funny to me when people treat a relationship between someone in their 30s and someone in their 40s as "age difference". bro i cannot tell you which of my friends are 34 and which are 44. i can probably tell you which ones aren't 30 yet, but it's probable some of them are 50 now and i didn't notice. if you're over 30 and don't have kids, it's kinda all one age until you can collect social security.
