i think that for a lot of people when they start learning about the political economy and marxist economics they really struggle with decoupling 1) the amount of money someone has from their class position relative to production and 2) the morality associated with being a member of one class or another and what it says about you and a lot of other stuff surrounding guilt that is neither helpful nor useful in these conversations
for example it's really hard to get people to understand that a pro athlete who makes millions of dollars a year is still a worker and not bourgeois because their income is entirely reliant on their physical labour and if they stop working they are not paid, and when discussing economics that is an important distinction. a family who owns their own small business like a corner store is petit bourgeois even if they're broke all the time. their class interests are not aligned with workers and unionization, they are for receiving more benefits afforded to small business owners and policies that increase their profits as small business owners. these class relations are about their relationship to production and capital not necessarily the size of their personal bank account but trying to get beginners to marxist economics to understand that can be really difficult
also when someone realizes they're petit bourgeois or bourgeois and starts self-flagellating or trying to conceal the nature of their family's relationship to capital it doesn't help anyone. if you recognize your class interests are not aligned with the working class and you are a marxist and want to be in solidarity with workers, you become a class traitor. you work toward changes that benefit workers and not your own class. you align yourself with working people at the expense of your own class. engels was from a bourgeois family, so was fidel castro, and both dedicated their lives to being class traitors. if more bourgeois people were class traitors the world would be a very different place lol
hyperfixating on a fictional woman who went underdeveloped in canon is literally FUN and the 80-90% of fandom people who only do the same for background character men have no idea of the degree to which they are fucking missing out
no tumblr i have faith that this post will be found by the enlightened 10-20 percent

hour 1 of thinking about an underdeveloped woman: idk it would've been nice if she had more screentime
hour 100 of thinking about an underdeveloped woman: ok but despite having only eight lines of dialogue she is literally THE most interesting nuanced and tragic character in the entire series and these writers had no idea what they even had. how is no one else seeing this it's literally so objectively obvious
I do think I want kids and I’ve been thinking about kids a lot and I think one of the scarier parts of it is navigating gender. I’m not too concerned about raising strong and empathetic boys who respect women because it seems pretty easy, you show them Grace Jones as a child. All the strong and empathetic boys I know who respect women have mentioned being very impressed by Grace Jones at a young age. Raising daughters is scarier because you don’t want to control them but it also seems really important to keep them away from creepy older men who will invariably try to groom them into being some sort of sex object, from what I’ve seen this is very effective at derailing a woman’s life for 5-20 years if she falls into it. I think showing the daughters Grace Jones probably helps with that, because she has so much inherent dignity in her demeanor, her beauty is almost an afterthought which is the way it should be for women. Non-binary kids I don’t know too much about because the cultural scripts aren’t super developed for that yet but I figure you probably have to let the child direct you, and show them Grace Jones.
lvl 1: the plural of octopus is octopuses because the plural version of a word is the word with an s at the end
lvl 2: the plural version of octopus is octopi because if a word ends with "us" the plural version replaces the "us" with "i" e.g. cactus -> cacti and fungus -> fungi
lvl 3: actually, that rule is only for latin words. octopus is a greek word and the correct plural is octopuses or octopodes
lvl 4: actually, language is descriptive not prescriptive. since enough people over time have used octopi as the plural for octopus, it's a valid plural
lvl 5: the plural of octopus is octopeese, like geese
I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.
only real 90s kids remember

it might seem like the zipper merge is hopelessly dependent on the goodwill of the driver- after all, if you can't trust anyone else to merge correctly then doing the right thing will get you stuck for ages. but you need to adjust the payoff matrix to account for me. you assume that denying the zipper is without cost, because you assume that if you act decisively your fellow drivers will be cowed. but i have faith, and i have justice. i do not fear death because martyrs do not truly die, and i will GLADLY use MY CAR and MY OWN FRAGILE BODY as a SINGLE INSTRUMENT of that faith and that justice, a HOLY SWORD. I WILL KILL YOU. I WILL KILL BOTH OF US AND ONLY YOU WILL DIE
sometimes i think i can probably pass as masc and maybe even as a straight guy but any time i engage in conversation with a kind stranger i have a demeanor not unlike a princely rich girl archetype in a 2000s manga and frequently extend my hand in an elegant manner which has caused a number of drunken individuals on nights out to kiss my hand as if i were a beautiful ojousama and not a greasy mechanic
every time i talk in work i feel this image manifest in my mind like a specter that torments me

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
