This would be a hilarious symbol of how impotent our Military Leadership and President are despite their bizarre obsession with Performative Masculinity, if it hadn't cost the lives of dozens of Iranian children, and soldiers on both sides.
The entire thing has been a pointless, pathetic attempt at a show of force. Our international reputation is fucked. We are, deservedly, hated. Like no amount of yelling about it on Social Media is going to undo this
And all we have to show for it is dozens of dead children and a bunch of dead soldiers.
This and over a hundred dead Iranian children so Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump can feel like big boys with big toys.
There's pretty much no (reliable) metric with which you can say the US is winning this conflict. It's astronomically expensive and exhaustive, so even in the short term it's hurting us, too say nothing of the long term consequences. Trump's flipflop style of 'negotiation' basically means we won't be taken seriously or at our word in any future negotiations. Our reckless use of what is supposed to be the best tech of the most powerful military on the planet, but not even being able to hold the strait, is showing off to the world we are just a bully with a lot of hot air. The military's morale is at the bottom of an abyss, to the point that troops are trying to commit suicide when they're told they're getting deployed. And the indiscriminate attacking of pretty much anything regardless of civilians presence (coupled with our continued funding and applying of Israel expansion aggression in the region) is pretty much guaranteed to make sure we have no allies left over there.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not lamenting any of this. The US has gotten too used to throwing bombs at everything, and our imperialstic foreign policy needs to be 100% destroyed. It's just baffling to me that the rah-rah tough guy who is so determined to show off how strong the country (he) is has instead managed to do the exact opposite. He really is an incompetent trustfund baby who got his hands on a new toy he didn't know how to use and immediately broke it.
The one silver lining that I've been holding to the whole time Trump has been in office, is that him and most of his administration are largely incompetent.
They are, absolutely, going to get people killed, and it's going to take decades before the world respects us again. Nothing about Trump and his rule has been good. But at least it's not being done by people who are good at it.

You know, there are times when I think that the protections of the US First Amendment might go too far, that protecting even the worst, most heinous speech is causing too much harm and we might want to think about limiting it.

For those unsure about how fandom contributes to JK Rowling's bullshit. I've been working in digital marketing for over 15 years and this is how it works:
Harry Potter fanfic indirectly supports her by keeping her IP alive and strengthens her branding.
Think of it like bookstagram or booktok, if people keep talking about a book, more people will read that book and fanfiction works the same way. I've had tons of people tell me they've started watching shows because of fanfics I've written. It's the same for other fanfic authors too including Harry Potter fans, and that is a huge fandom, one that keeps churning out work that keeps her relevent and that relevence is what leads to people to seek out the source content eg: the books, the movies, watching the show (she currently stands to net around 20 million a year for this).
You're basically a cog in the machine that keeps her making money.
People leaning on the nostaligia aspect are using it as an excuse not confront the bigger issues at play or because it doesn’t affect them directly. (eg not UK based so aren't feeling/seeing the real effects, don’t have friends/family members who are trans so they support trans in theory) I know it's complicated for a lot of people because ‘I grew up with Harry Potter’ or ‘it helped me through a bad time’ – it did for me too. It was the thing I was reading to escape a very traumatic and messy homelife.
For me I find it hard to reconcile my enjoyment of Harry Potter with the knowledge that in some capacity (reading it, writing it, buying shit) I would be supporting a person who is actively trying to hurt people that I care about. Why would I do that? Why would I want to be around other people who choose to do that?
You have to question, if you are willing to do that, are you really the ally you claim to be?
and for that matter why have i seen posts on here trying to rehabilitate the reputation of fucking 4chan. like i say this as a person of color tumblr is racist yes but it is not "incited multiple white supremacist mass shootings" levels of racist. it is not "started gamergate" levels of misogynist. what are we doing here. if you found community and support in 4chan good for you but everyone else has the right to feel uncomfortable that you found community among nazis and racists
