caine nation how are we doing
“you really were the lesser of the two”
Just a memory
anyways i just love the way kpop demon hunters stayed true to its roots in korean/asian culture, especially around the core theme of community vs individualism
the fact that it's not a single chosen one but a group of three
the fact that the honmoon is not powered by the hunters themselves but by the energy and love of the fans
the fact that gwi-ma turns people into demons by promising that he is the only one who can help them when he is in fact reliant on his army of demons to collect souls for him
the fact that "your idol" is about surrendering yourself to a single higher power while "golden" is about soaring to new heights together
the fact that gwi-ma preys on people's individual insecurities and shame to get inside their heads while rumi, mira, and zoey set them free in the end by encouraging them to embrace their differences and reminding them that they're not alone
the fact that you can see the audience cheering individually and even pushing into each other to get closer to the stage during "your idol"
while they're linking arms and cheering together and hugging during "what it feels like"
i have not seen the live action lilo and stitch but it feels like that movie sits on the opposite end of the spectrum from kpop demon hunters as a case study for how to tell a story in way that is culturally authentic and still resonates with a broader audience
and i think given that the core theme of the movie is all about community over individualism, the ending, particularly as it relates to rumi and jinu's budding romance, is really the perfect culmination of that broader theme
rumi and jinu's connection has all the hallmarks of that all-encompassing, all-consuming, borderline co-dependent first love where you keep your relationship a secret and sneak out of the house to meet up and feel like the other person is the ONLY person who really gets you
i'm the only one who can understand you, i'm the only one who will love you is the kind of thing that sounds romantic when you're 16 until you get older and realize how toxic it actually is and i love that the movie counters that in "what it sounds like" with rumi realizing that she had that love and support all along from her girls, and later, from the fans who continue to cheer them on through their comeback
it's about connection and sisterhood and love and sharing your fears and lifting each other up and becoming stronger and better together
and as compelling as i found rumi/jinu and as much as i would like to see their relationship explored more in a sequel/series, i just really love that this movie, which is clearly targeted at young women, ends on the message that romantic love is not the end all be all, that friendship is just as important if not more so than a romantic partner, that single women can lead successful, fulfilling lives, that true happiness and freedom start from within
it's crazy that this message still seems revolutionary in 2025 but given the current state of the world, it feels more necessary than ever
For my other PJO friends and fanatics- Millie Irene just released a new single "Fatal Flaw" about Percy and Annabeth and its been on repeat for me all day long. 1000% recommend
*a few months after The Ithaca Saga*
Odysseus: *wakes up at the dead of night drenched in cold sweat*
Penelope: Love? What's wrong?
Odysseus: That prophet son of a bitch- IT WAS ME!
Penelope: What??
Odysseus: I WAS THE MAN WHO WAS HAUNTING ALL ALONG!!
Penelope: *pulling him down and hugging him* ok dear just go back to sleep.
*meanwhile in the Underworld*
Tiresias: Fucking finally that dumbass

Official Wednesday post
It's Tuesday
Happy "Not Only Is It Not Friday, It's Not Even Thursday, Official Wednesday, It's Tuesday" Monday, everyone
Imagine being Posiedon.
You are sitting for 10 years, waiting to finish a fight with a punk sailor that you decimated most of the crew of because they blinded your son.
And you go for that extra level petty where you are waiting for him to be right by his home. Just so you can snatch that hope away from him.
Now ten years is nothing to you because you are a deity. And your entire domain is the ocean.
So imagine, you get word the punk is back on the seas. In a little raft made of twigs and leaves. You make a show of it. You tell him that there is no mercy and that you are here to run that fade one last time. And if he doesn’t… you will kill everyone. He’s begging for mercy. Trying to appeal.
But he ain’t getting it. This is
And just as you hit him with your named finisher.
This motherf***er not only survives, but utilizes the power of YOUR Storm to fly and hit you with a f***ing Limit break.
You got your ass beat in your domain. Now you decide to be petty. Cause f*** this guy in particular. Sure, he won. But you will heal, you can’t die, and that storm he used to fight back is now stopping him from getting home.
He tells you to call off the storm.
You tell him no. And he picks up your triton. You laugh cause that won’t kill you.
But when you look up and see his face… you realize. He was counting on that.
And it was for the first time in a long time you lament being immortal.
what do you feel about the vengance saga?
Thank you for asking! It’s absolutely phenomenal. Poseidon is my favourite god and like all blorbos nothing brings me more joy than watching him get used like a stress ball.
Go off king. Six hundred strike has definitely bumped up to my favourite song thus far. Oh, and the quip from Odysseus at the end? “Next to my wife” I lose my mind every time I hear it. So 🔥🔥🔥
(Moving version lmao)
In The Iliad, Diomedes is able to fight & injure both Aphrodite and Ares with Athena's help/at Athena's command.
In Epic, Odysseus is only able to "defeat" one immortal, and that's Circe, and only with Hermes' explicit divine assistance.
Except... He did actually receive another godly order. Another god made a demand of him; Poseidon explicitly told him to become more Ruthless. You could argue it was a divine command, intentional or not.
...I joked about him being a paladin last night, but I do think there's power in stories when it comes to oaths, and what the gods tell you to do, tell you to be.
Odysseus followed through with Poseidon's demands, and he was rewarded for it, even if perhaps not the way Poseidon would have appreciated.
HERE. IT. IS.
THE. ART.
Love Paradise makes me cry. Every single time I listen to the song it pulls on my heart strings in a way that I can't entirely describe. The actual music is amazing all around, but the different emotions portrayed from Athena's grief and guilt, to Ody's PTSD episode following Calypso's unfortunate word choice, I could go on and on about how much I love that song.
I also can't imagine what Athena was feeling. She finally gathers the courage and resolve to reconnect with her old friend, regardless of the path he's on now and after seeing the intense suffering and pain he's experienced in his time apart from her, then the most up to date thing she sees is him crying out for her. His mentor, his friend. One of the only friends he has that isn't dead at his hand, even though I'm sure he blames himself for her absence from him.
Heart wrenching.
Wisdom Saga is taking over my brain 😂 I wanna tall about God Games for a second. I LOVE the difference between all of the gods so much.
Apollo is really just vibing. Set up an easy out for his half-sister because he really has no beef with Ody.
Hephaestus is mildly annoyed, and tries but realizes that the quicker he agrees, the quicker his half-sister will move on and allow him to return to his work.
Aphrodite is really one of two that I think was initially dead set on disagreeing. But I think everyone could see the argument from Athena coming a mile away; regardless of the broken hearts, deep down he was doing this all for the love of his life and his son. What could be more romantic? Then adding in Ares' reluctant agreement, she conceded.
Ares can't stand a coward, but he loves bloodshed even more. His view of what war should be differs from Athena's, but he can recognize that she's right. If he's released to return home and find his palace in the state that it is, blood will flow and heads will row. (I am impossibly excited for King).
Hera wants an underdog, and she practically leads Athena to her winning argument. I don't think she knows what it'll be, but she knows how convincing she can be and wants her to do well. And she does.
And for Zeus. I have seen a lot of people complain that his reaction was out of character for his portrayal so far, but I disagree. Up to now, we've only seem him succeed. This is the first time we've seen him loose, and his reaction to me is pretty on par for how a powerful sore loser would react.
Obviously not commenting on the religious gods themselves, or any other rendition of them other than EPIC, but damn do I love the wiring for this rendition!
I need to talk about Athena from Wisdom Saga, specifically her character development and how beautiful it was.
It was a beautiful saga and it takes the crown as my new favorite. The transition of development of her character is one of my favorite things. Back in Troy and Cyclops saga, we see Athena as strict business, warrior of the mind, mentor only to Odysseus. Odysseus sees her as a friend, but the tensions get heated when Ody didn't kill the cyclops and they have their goodbye. The line of Ody telling Athena she is alone just hurts all around. Then we know she is watching in Ruthlessness from the piano motif because she was right about what would happen for not killing the cyclops.
In Monster, Ody calls her mentor and how she is in the list of people he has lost up to that point. His feelings of friendship from her were close to nothing at that point. But deep down she always still cared. The ending animatic of her holding a baby Telemachus made me tear up. The feelings in her at that moment leading to her helping Telemachus. She was always watching in some way, hearing Legendary as a prayer/plea from Telemachus to help him, and showing up to help him fight back. It was her moment to make a move, ten years had passed. From the start of their interactions, Telemachus viewed and accepted her as a friend.
The lyrics of We'll Be Fine just destroy me.
*I had a friend before, and he was a lot like you.
I helped him fight through war, but he has his demons too.
And then we grew apart, then his light went dark*
Because Ody was changing from how she designed him and she was slowly changing too.
*And so I thought,
Maybe if I made a different call,
maybe if I hadn't missed it all.
Maybe, he'd be fine,
Maybe we'd unwind,
Maybe, if I help another soul,
Maybe if I helped you reach your goal,
Life could be that bright
I could sleep at night*
Athena lived with years of guilt too, waiting for the right time to make her mood and try to make amens somehow. She changed, she wanted to make things right. Telemachus' pure heart is the final push she needs for her to make things right again.
*Maybe to fall is to learn one way
Maybe it's all gonna turn out great
I know we'll be fine
I know its light you'll find*
I can't even begin to describe the pain going through me when Athena witnessed Ody in one of his darkest moments being haunted by everyone he has lost.
This brings us to God Games, Athena asking for a favor to free Ody. Zeus obviously will not make it easy and we know Zeus like to make people reveal their true nature like making Ody choose himself of his crew at the end of Thunderbringer. We know Athena is known to be prideful and that is often her weakness. Zeus wanted to see Athena fall and fail and she proved him wrong. So he was angered and attacked, and she stood by her desire to help free Ody all the way to the end, even when gravely injured. Athena has come full circle.
This was beautiful character development and I can't stop thinking about it.
