I think it’s really important, for non-Vancouverites, that you know some additional layers of the joke to this, because this shit’s got history:
One of our parks has an abstract statue in it of someone reclining.
In Nov 2012, an artist made a sign as a joke, “Dude Chilling Park”, which looked exactly like our official Parks Board signs (except for the official park boards seal).
The Vancouver Parks Board removed the sign but, after a whole lot of petitions, they put in an official one a year and a half later, also “Dude Chilling Park”, but now with the proper seal attached.
Fast forward 7 years later. We have horrible floods. A barge washes up on Sunset Beach and gets grounded there. It has yet to be removed.
The Vancouver Parks Board, unprompted, adds a “Barge Chilling Beach” sign.
Honestly, between the insufferable activists, the actors pretending to be native Americans and my nation constantly shitting itself when it comes to basic shit like not allowing people to fuck animals, allowing people to freely practice religion and allowing people to retain their rights and exercise them, I’m losing hope, I used to be proud of my nation, I know, people will scoff at the idea, a Canadian proud to be Canadian, but it’s true, I am a Canadian who is proud of what our country has done, not what it is doing, I qm proud of our history, both the good and bad, for no nation is perfect and to wish for a perfect nation with no bad in its history is a fools errand.
The land never belonged to the so called natives, it never belonged to anyone until the British and French colonized it, much like ancient Europe, when the Roman empire expanded its borders the land didn’t belong to the celts, the goths or any other tribe, they had no concept of a nation state, just the tribe and conflict, and who ever won the conflict got to live on the land, now you’ll point to Central America, but the Aztecs won the right to rule through conquest themselves, to claim Europeans were in the wrong to expand into North America is to claim the Aztecs, the Mongols, the Chinese, the Huns, the Ottomans, the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians and every African Tribes were in the wrong for expanding through conquest, but those who cry foul at Europeans do not cry foul at the rest of the world, no, do you know why? Same reason the Canadian government turns a blind eye to the so called natives burning down Catholic churches in Canada in 2021, they care in a rather racist and condescending way, only for those not of European descent.
Not out of concern, no, they care little for the actual wellbeing or grievances of their yearly token demographic, they cry on camera, show concern for the press and do little more than catch a headline, much like the person who vandalized the sign, it’s a way of swaying public opinion and catching a headline, it does little to actually help anyone.
You want to help natives? Lobby the government to drop the gun restrictions, lobby them to develop more infrastructure to remote locations, or invest in local plans to develop it, don’t protest pipelines they hire mainly natives while working in native land, push the government to stop restricting hunting, push them to invest in nuclear energy, to expand northern infrastructure, ect ect, that sign shit is a performative jerkoff session at best, oh, and if you want people to respect the native languages, and I say languages because there’s dozens if not hundreds, then you need to push for them to be taught, used in legal and government documents ect ect.
You want to help people, actually help them, don’t hijack a fun post to virtue signal, also I’m providing links to the animal thing, and yes, it’s from BC too, because the west coast of North America is just absolutely cancerous for some reason.
In a judgement released Thursday, the court ruled that only penetrative sex with animals is a crime, not oral sex.

I really need this spread around because this is becoming a serious issue.
The following is a post concerning reblog bait, and how harmful and triggering it can be, and why it needs to be stopped.
(C/TW: Images of reblog bait)
THESE types of posts really need to stop being made or spread. I have OCD and these are a massive trigger, because I physically cannot ignore them. I thought it was just a me thing for a while but then I posted a rant on my story on Instagram and so many other people with OCD (or even without) feel the same, and on top of that they just clog peoples feeds.
And it’s not not just the ones with consequences. Even the ones with rewards trigger it, because my brain automatically fills in the consequence. It’s effectively a simulation of OCD itself. You have to do something or something bad will happen.
This is becoming a serious issue and it’s really been affecting mine and others mental health. I don’t know if this will get anywhere but I’m trying to spread the message in the hopes that people understand.
I've started ERP therapy for OCD, which has been intense. I'm learning a lot about myself and what I am capable of, that I'm stronger than I think.
But it's times like these, at midnight, when I lie awake because everytime I close my eyes I get horrendous images of me smashing my head against the wall.
i just need ocd in media to diverge from the perfectionist stuff a bit more.
growing up i had no idea that not all ocd looked the same—rearranging pencils on your desk, stacking books smallest to largest, fixing a crooked picture frame. even after i learned a bit more about the extent of it in psychology classes (people who go home to check the stove in the middle of the day, people who have to wash their hands constantly, people who lock and relock their doors seven times just to be sure,) i still didn’t know i should apply it to myself until my psychiatrist mentioned it. i had no idea what he was talking about! and he was just like,
“uhhh yeah you can’t turn around if you’re walking in public and realize you’ve been going the wrong way? you can’t order food using more than one sentence, and not a single item over three words long? you have all these arbitrary rules you’re making for yourself just to get through the day with a manageable level of anxiety, and all they actually do is hinder your everyday processes? do you even know what ocd is?”
and i’m sitting there like, damn, i guess the fuck not!! because not all of it is life shattering. the obsessive need to always step over the same amount of sidewalk cracks with your left foot as your right isn’t always discernable from the silly games kids make up for themselves on a quick walk to school. the compulsion to wash your hands after coming home or touching something that might be dirty if you think about it too hard won’t look like a compulsion if it’s a habit for everyone else.
if other people can’t see how it affects you, sometimes you end up believing there’s nothing to see at all. just because i don’t have a panic attack after stepping on a slightly thicker sidewalk crack with one foot and not the other doesn’t mean i won’t feel fundamentally unbalanced for the rest of the day. just because washing hands after you leave the house is a good habit doesn’t mean my skin should crawl for hours if i don’t.
not every compulsion is going to be considered disordered. my sidewalk crack obsession has more or less faded out of relevance (unless something gets me thinking about it in the moment) and doesn’t usually affect my daily life anymore, let alone drastically enough to be considered disordered. my hand washing however got worse after covid, and has frequently gotten in the way to the extent that i couldn’t touch anything until i washed my hands. (and if i did touch anything, there’s a pretty good chance i wiped it down afterwards.) these things aren’t always noticeable, because they’re small, or considered good habits.
but the bigger things that affect your quality of life aren’t always immediately recognizable either, because ocd has been trapped in this rigidly-defined stereotype (especially by pop culture) for so long that it’s difficult to imagine just how many other forms it can take. it’s diverse from person to person and it can change over time. it doesn’t always look like perfectionism and it doesn’t always throw you into a full-on mental breakdown (even if the intrusive thoughts are always there).
i guess i just want a little more understanding of (gesturing to all of the above) that, in the media, because media is so integral to my life, both as a creator and a consumer, and it has such a powerful hand in shaping the way society grows and thinks. it’s already so rare that ocd is portrayed at all, much less with respect, so,
yeah i think it would be cool if we could have a little more variety when approaching ocd in media.
I was diagnosed this summer at 27, with absolutely no foresight that I had any inkling of OCD! When I was told, it was like the whole world just suddenly made a bit more sense, and I ended up laughing hysterically. I rang my nan up and we just laughed together, like how did we not know this my whole life?! Everything just made sense!
And then 1 week later I was panicking that I had made it all up on the phone and made it sound way worse to the psychiatrist then it actually is. In essence that I was faking it.
