our refrigerator broke and we lost most of our food
hey guys, i truly hate having to ask for help when all of us are struggling, but we’re in a bind. we woke up yesterday (on our 13th anniversary, of all days!) and found that everything in our freezer was melting and the food in the fridge was no longer cold. we lost nearly all of the food we had in the house and we gave away what we couldn’t immediately cook, and we’ve put other salvageable things in coolers for now, but it’s mostly things like ketchup and pickles and the last of our vegetables. it’s not a lot.
we have a service technician coming this week to repair the fridge. at minimum, the call fee will be $110. anything beyond that for the repair is unknown right now. unfortunately, we are also going to need cash to eventually replace food that was lost and maybe get some nonperishable foods that we can have on hand until the fridge is back in commission.
this really could not have happened at a worse time for us; just a month ago our car ended up needing critical repairs, with more still needed, and our emergency fund is drained right now. we also lost our food-stamps last month and aren’t eligible to reapply until september due to a scheduling error from the phone interview system.
