No I’m pretty sure Faramir x Eowyn’s engagement caused a stir amongst noble families in Gondor cuz what do you mean the Steward’s firstborn is a confirmed bachelor who would only give a supportive thumbs up when our daughters strip in front of him and his youngest is married to this wild Rohirrim maiden who ride horses with her legs wide open?? Unbelievable. What we have come to. Truly Gondor has failed as a society

Éowyn’s engagement ring
Faramir gives Éowyn a ring with a sea-blue gem of Dol Amroth that belonged once to his mother Finduilas. It is a strange jewel that shifts in color depending on the nature of light that it reflects. In bright sunlight it shines greenish turquoise, like the clear water below the quays of Dol Amroth in summer. In cloudy weather it becomes silver-gray as the sea in a storm, and in candlelight it looks almost purple, in the way that the ocean reflects the violet shades of coming night.
Faramir gives this ring to his bride-to-be out of love for his mother and her people and as a symbol of renewal of the joy of his house. Yet to Éowyn it takes on different meaning: child of the plains she knows little of the moods of the sea, and instead to her the stone is one of air and wind and sky. All her life she has stared upward at it, wide and arcing. She knows its patterns and habits. When the gem sparkles bright blue in the sunlight, she knows that it is the color of a peaceful clear morning, or of a warm afternoon of light wind and endless possibility.
When the gem desaturates of color, she understands it to have taken on that pewter hue of building storms, and in candlelight the gem sparkles with the violet of last light, of night rising like a wave or a wall and marching steadily over the open lands of the Mark.
The ring is of air and water, of sea and sky, of Rohan and Gondor both, a single object of dual meaning at the dawning of a new age and the welding of a new house.

I’d like to think of Imrahil as this supportive family member that Boromir and Faramir have. Like. Since their mother’s passing, he regularly keeps in touch with them to make sure they’re alright—especially because he notices that their father is treating them differently.
Boromir might be the golden child but Imrahil notices that he’s also parentified heavily—so he tries to remind him to be a boy when he’s young, and to put himself first as an adult. Doesn’t always work but at least someone tries
Faramir has many potentials that his own father just refuses to see, so Imrahil tries to be more encouraging of him. “You didn’t pass the test for to join the Tower troop. Ever considered training to be a ranger instead?”

My LOTR hot take is that we are so used to see Aragorn as the Greatest Guy that we often don’t notice (or intentionally ignore?) all the red flags he displays in his interactions with Eowyn
Like, we are accustomed to this idea that Eowyn is so madly in love with him, and that she is pitiful for not having it reciprocated. Some of us may even laugh at her, calling her “settling” for being with Faramir instead
But I recently rewatched ROTK (extended edition) and realised … Nope. She wasn’t being delusional. She was not to blame here, let alone laugh at
Aragorn DID act like he was available and was willing to reciprocate her love. Exhibit A: the party scene where she gave him a cup and he accepted it. The way that cup was handed gave me the impression that nope, this wasn’t just a hospitality thing. There’s another meaning to the gesture. And yes, if you read tarot, that scene always reminds me of the 2 of Cups—one of the most romantic card in the Minor Arcana.
Even better? Theoden congratulated her after that. So if she keeps her hopes up, she wasn’t being a delusional young woman. The gesture did mean he was accepting her love. Even her uncle saw and acknowledged what happened
We don’t know why Aragorn behaved like that. Perhaps he was about to accept that his relationship with Arwen would never work, and he was looking for a rebound—or replacement. Perhaps he was just another man, being unfaithful even to a wife/girlfriend he loved
Either way, that’s a red flag and I’m glad my girl Eowyn dodged that bullet

to all of those people who don't like boromir i'd like to remind you that boromir died with his honour intact. unlike isildur, face down in a river with arrows piercing through his back, corrupted and afraid. he fought as a son of gondor, protected what he knew was pure and died with the blessing of the king of men. he died laying in the arms of a king. his king. he may have been swayed by the power of the ring but in the end he fought and faced it. in the end his heart was true to his people. those of gondor—his home. and those of the fellowship—his friends. he died as a brother, a friend, and a hero.

HIS FLAWS ARE OUR FLAWS. Our very own, our feeble human nature, our weakness of mind and flesh laid bare and reflected in the mirrormere of his fall. He is us, each one of us. There’s no blood of the Dunedain gushing through his veins, no presence of a Maia or a long-forgotten High king of the elves in his lineage, no elvish upbringing to aid him in his perils but the rawness of human strength, the perseverance of his earthly spirit, the tirelessness of his mortal limbs.
Headcanon: Boromir and Arwen are besties because they got close when the Fellowship stayed in Rivendell before leaving on their quest. Boromir was terribly lonely for human companionship and would not/refuse to find it in Aragorn. Arwen not only took pity on fancy dirt man but he reminded her of when Aragorn was young. They were able to connect easily because of her knowledge of humanity and his fancy boy manners™

It's crucial that you envision a giant, burly man folding himself up to sit at a tiny tea party table and pinching a tiny teacup between his fingers, all while wearing the most serious and dignified of expressions because tea parties are Important Business and must be treated as such.
