Oh thank god one I don’t need to write for.
“It- It’s Gilderoy.” Regulus lifted his head enough to blink impassively at a stretch of space adjacent to where he assumed Lockhart was standing, and the Ravenclaw cleared his throat uncomfortably. “…Gilderoy Lockhart? We’re in the same Divination class.”
Regulus hummed in acknowledgement.
“Right. The one who broke his teacup that one time. I recall. Did you want something, Lockhart?”
He took pains to sound as bored as possible, and figured he’d succeeded when Dorcas kicked him under the table; but Lockhart forged on regardless, as ignorant to social cues as he ever had been.
“As you may know, the first quidditch game of this year is going to be Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, as we were both top of the league last year.” Privately, Regulus thought that being top two of four wasn’t something to brag about, but whatever. “I, of course, will be making my grand return to the pitch as Ravenclaw’s star seeker.”
Regulus set an elbow on the edge of the table so he could drop his cheek into his palm, impatiently waiting for Lockhart to reach his point; and his eyes fluttered shut when Dorcas messed with his hair again, tucking curls that had fallen loose behind his ears.
He should start tying it back, really. Though he didn’t have sight to impair, it was irritating, the way it tickled his face.
“It was my hope, after the rapport we formed last year in our Divination lessons, that you might display some support for our team; I have a spare jersey I’m sure would suit you, and after I bring victory to the team we could spend the celebrations together.”
There was an incredulous noise from… somewhere, down the table, and Regulus realised that at some point, they’d managed to gain the attention of half of Slytherin House; and Regulus turned a slow, cat-like blink on Gilderoy Lockhart, before he turned his head in Barty’s direction.
“I’m not very good at reading between the lines, Barty. Simplify the motive here for me?”
“You got hot over the summer, and Lockhart is asking you out,” Barty provided helpfully; and Regulus frowned, mildly irritated by the explanation.
