Talking about the Scooby doo fandom is an impossible task. It’s a franchise that is so ubiquitous yet no one is on the same page. No one has seen the same shows and movies, in the same order, and at the same age. Everybody has some knowledge of Scooby Doo, and everybody has opinions on it, but most haven’t seen much of the franchise. Yet many Scooby Doo opinions have some level of basis in canon due to the different versions. But then a lot of opinions are formed through pop cultural osmosis, where the personalities and roles of the characters are frequently misinterpreted. It’s one of the most popular animated franchises out there, so most people can be considered fans on some level, but I can’t talk about “Shaggy fans”, for example, without feeling ridiculous. Then people will see misinformation or clips out of context and not bother checking the source material because going through 40 movies and 13 shows just to see what’s true to Scooby Doo canon is a daunting task that no one should ever attempt. And most people just don’t care if they spread or receive misinformation about Scooby-Doo. Because it’s Scooby-Doo.

scooby doo is such a weird franchise because it’s really old and very popular. everyone loves scooby doo. they have vague positive feelings about the movies and shows they grew up with. but very few people actually know that much about scooby doo. most people i talk to are really surprised there’s so many movies. they don’t know about the movies past 2004. most people haven’t seen much outside of the live actions and the mook films. when i tell people i’m a big scooby doo fan they’re like yeah i love zombie island. and i’m like oh we’re operating on completely different levels of scooby doo here. you can’t even comprehend the levels of scooby doo i’m about to explain to you.

the thing that really grinds my gears about the cheesy tiktok censorshop of "sewer slide" "real life game over" etc is that. like. we already have euphemisms for suicide and death. 'took his own life.' 'lost their battle with mental illness'. 'passed away.' even assuming the censorship/shadowban/algorithm hiding shit they think is happening really is happening, there's ways to get around it that don't make you sound like a kindergartener
