Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
Hit "view post" and lost it

Al-Hashimi: I think this department needs two attendings at all times, itโs too much work for one person alone
What Robby heard: youโre a failure and this ED is a failure and you are terrible at your job and I am personally on a mission to remind you how much you donโt measure up to Adamson
I went to a clothes shop with my daughter yesterday and we were talking about how the clothes were nice but how it was the kind of shop that made us both feel like a horse. You know itโs like, here I am, a horse at a human clothing shop, putting on clothes that look ridiculous on a horse, and itโs obviously my fault for being a horse and not a human
Of course that sweater looks weird on me, Iโm a horse, not a human! I can barely get my hooves through the sleeves, and it bunches up over my withers and doesnโt reach my fetlocks, and thereโs no accounting for my hindquarters. Or my forequarters either
So then we started talking about horse shops and classifying clothes as for humans or for horses, and now Iโm afraid the idea of the horse shop is permanently cemented in my vocabulary, and someone is going to ask me about clothes and Iโll be like โoh I canโt shop there it isnโt for horsesโ and it will be weird

sunshiney characters who adore the mean grumpy character, platonically or romantically, but not DESPITE them being mean as if that isnโt who the other โreallyโ is deep down. they love it. they think the other is the funniest cleverest most delightful person alive
if the sunshiney character doesnโt have to cover their mouth up trying not to laugh at every sharp comment, completely altering how everyone else thinks abt the sunshiney character, then whatโs the point
i am banned from eating my herring inside. they make me eat it on the smoking area by the loading dock, under the theory that it already smells bad there. but it was raining today which was preventing my breakfast, so i was feeling sad and hungry and then i realized that there was a large cardboard box in the dumpster from a previous delivery. like a fridge sized box. so i fished it out of the dumpster, then tipped it on its side and had a nice little cardboard cave to watch the rain and eat my fish in. which was a great experience. very soothing. very zen. at least until the security guard from the day before stepped outside to smoke. then i tried hiding from him by crawling deeper in the box, which unfortunately did not work. instead he saw a sort of damp sniveling pale hairless creature eating fish in a box, and delivered the verbal killshot of "good morning, mr. smeagol." which is how my day was ruined before 8 am.
OK listen listen. The romance trope of the guy showing up at his love interest's door, and he's all hurt and injured and has clearly been through HELL, and after all went down he kept going through all the pain and exhaustion and pushed through to see his woman, like she was this north star he had to get to, and right as she opens the door he looks in her eyes and immediately just... Collapses. Because he knows that he's safe now. With her. And he's able and feels safe enough to be so vulnerable with her.
And then when they're not yet together even????
I just... Melt... Into a thousand... Pieces.
