BITCHEEEES
K so I spoiled the quest for myself a long time ago so I've been holding this in like the fart of the century for WEEKS.
Okay okay okay, I know we're all mad at Causthiccâ„¢, but his character just got mch more interesting with this latest chapter, and I love analyzing bad guys so here we go~
So we learned that he's hella protective over Wattson to the point where he snitches on Loba and completely fucks the whole thing over. There's no doubt that the way he went about defending her was bad. Like, dudes a piece of shit for ratting them out and framing Crypto. I'm not defending that at all.
First off: I really don't think he did all of that "for the sake of science". This dude clearly DOES NOT know how to talk about his feelings upfront with people. There's no way he's gonna straight up tell Gibby that he snitched so Wattson wouldn't get hurt because he cares about her as a person. He sleeps with a Nessie plush from Wattson next to his pillow and straight up Bart Simpsoned Loba when she got hurt during that quest, so I'm gonna spitball and say he really does care for Nat.
I don't think there was ever a time when he was comfortable expressing his feelings in a healthy way (hence his experiments and him supposedly blowing up the lab), which leads me to my next theory–
Caustic's mom's last name was Ticacek. The orphanage that took Crypto and Mila in was called the Ticacek Orphanage. Now, I'm not saying his mom directly raised Crypto or that the orphanage was owned by her (it could've been run by a close family member and his mom was just involved on the side), but I have a feeling that his mom did foster Crypto at some point when he was very young. Here's why:
Crypto said his mom used to call him a "smartypants" as a kid. If they happened to share the same mom at one point, she most likely called Caustic a smartypants as well. And that's what he signs the end of his letter to Revenant with.
A. Smartypants = Alexander Smartypants
Tom has stated before that Crypto doesn't talk to the other legends outside the games, so I don't think it was something Caustic picked up on by just eavesdropping on his conversations with the others. And there's NO way that Crypto calling Wattson a smartypants and Caustic calling himself a smartypants is just a coincidence. Maybe it's not exactly what I think it is, but there's no way those two aren't linked somehow.
And back to the subject of his mom possibly being involved with the orphanage and fostering other kids, maybe this caused her to mentally/emotionally neglect her own biological son. People like Caustic aren't born with sociopathic tendencies, they're made. It would make sense if this is the reason why he has a hard time communicating with others on a personal level. Because he never learned how to as a child!
That's my hot take for the day, babes. I think most of the anti-Caustic crowd has me blocked by now, so I can post this 😂 Also I've been at work all day. Any comments, critiques, questions, and threats will be dealt with tomorrow.
We analysing caustic? Let me get my Kinnie ass in on this.
Alright gamers.
Caustic. He’s seen as the villain and has been hated by most of the fandom since well, ever. As we’ve gotten further into the game we’ve learned more about him. That being said. This man has trauma. Obviously.!!??
He so definitely had a fear of abandonment. Think about it. He destroyed his lab, the one scientist that he respected died. But that scientists daughter had enough love and respect to keep in touch with him. He grew Attached to wattson. Wanted to watch her thrive and succeed as any friend or father figure would. All of the sudden, some other person starts to get close with wattson, in this case, crypto.
Caustic feels fear. He feels hesitation, he feels commitment, and jealousy. He’s scared that if wattson becomes friends with crypto, he won’t be able to spend time with her. He won’t be able to watch her develop more tech, and improve it as a whole. He’d have to share wattson. A man who has been disliked by everyone, believes that there is a chance that the one person that likes him is going to leave him. The choices he made was fuelled by fear.
Let me talk about the fear of abandonment. It can be used in different terms, like with parents or friends or lovers, or animals. It is so wide ranged. In this particular way, he is fearful of a person who he loves and trusts, is going to essentially leave and replace him. Consider his position. No one pays him no knowledge or kindness in the games. Everyone knows his past, loba knowig a lot more. Wattson likes him because her father showed her a side of him no one else saw. Passion in his work, intellectual company, and opinions. Caustic respects others in his field, and even acknowledges those who may have greater potential than him.
He doesn’t want wattson to be slowed down by crypto. He definitely sees crypto and a majority of everyone else, lower than him.
In his eyes, his decisions were ethical and just, to keep what is his, he needs to remove all other competitors. Which is exactly what he did.
Trauma fucks up your morals and your ethics. It embeds fear, and throws your whole concept of right and wrong to shit.
He may be a fictional character. But the emotions and shit he’s gone through is real. His motives and actions are valid looking at where he’s come from
TLDR: caustic had motives to explain his actions. Don’t hate him because he betrayed people. In his eyes he was in the right.
can we just not make people that like Caustic feel guilty or something??? remember, this is a game and they are fictional characters
thats one way to LFG
