hold your horses people, all isn’t quite as it seems. Mastodon is by nature a decentralized social network, meaning when you join you find an instance that caters to what you’re interested in (think like Discord servers)

Mastodon.social, the biggest and most popular instance, explicitly bans pedophilia and hate speech, and doesn’t allow users who are part of any instances that do. It also won’t show any posts from same either.

I can’t access the link above for some reason, but I’m guessing it mentions Pawoo, an instance run by Pixiv that’s WAY too lax on NSFW art of underage characters. I doubt anyone on this site joined that one for obvious reasons, but basically as long as you join mastodon.social (or make your own instance! that’s a thing too and it’s neat) you should be fine

So TL;DR Mastodon doesn’t work like traditional social media and please don’t demonize the whole platform because of instances that are shitty

do you get an alert if a post/reblog is flagged or do you just have to see it?

you just gotta see it/find it. which is part of what makes this whole situation really steessful because “repeat offenders” are at risk of deletion but everyone with more than, like, 5,000 posts or a reasonable amount to go through and find all their flagged posts is automatically a repeat offended. i personally have like 60-80k posts so i cannot find all that are flagged. staff claimed theyll send out emails with links to all your flagged posts but it hasn’t happened yet and it seems unrealistic. they added a section to the support page specifically for unwarranted termination so you can get your blog back, but i have a feeling if you have to use it it’s gonna be pretty swamped if a ton of people get wrongfully deactivated
