“Alone”: Marriage Allegory (TD)

This post is jumping off the lovely anon that @twdmusicboxmystery​ answered this morning, which proposes that Beth and Daryl are already “symbolically married,” based on the events of “Alone.” I love this! I have always felt this way. From my perspective, “Alone” is a marriage allegory. It doesn’t appear in any clear order, but all the signs are there (you just have to know how to read them).

I want to note that perhaps a lot of this has already been said over the years, but I feel that TD and our ship are experiencing a bit of reinvigoration lately, and so I wanted to offer this as some illustration of Norman’s recent confession that Daryl had feelings for Beth, and what that means going forward. Anyway, this isn’t my longest theory ever, but it’s long enough to stick under a cut. I hope you like it!!

Interesting news everyone!

Just bumped into an account in X I m not so fond of but had a major spoiler of DDS4!!!

It appears Daryl will get on a plane sometime in season 4! This actor posted the picture of him in ADR session! (Automated Dialogue Replacement as @atrumreginablue pointed out)

Bethyl in Fallout AU

Didn't wanna remove Daryl's nose, so instead of him being a ghoul, let's say Daryl is from a Vault too but left his cryo pod a decade or so earlier to find Merle, who it turns out did become a ghoul. Beth leaves her Vault to find her missing family, either abducted or separated long ago in a different Vault's cryo pods, and runs into Daryl.

Someday I'll be able to perfectly sculpt that outfit in Blender and create a sexy 3D render of Daryl.

There's a reason Daryl was immediately paired off with a group of vile child rapists immediately after separating from Beth: to highlight that he doesn't actually fit in with them. He doesn't belong. TWD said: "You think he's a monster? We'll show you monsters."

That’s a great point! Daryl was still a young man back in Season 4, and in many ways his emotional maturity was closer to that of a teenager trapped in a grown man’s body. Considering everything he had been through, that’s not surprising. It’s really unfair when people imply or outright say that he’s a monster... He even pulled a knife on someone who disrespected Beth, calling her his “tail” and saying that the little ones don’t last out there.
