Very bad synopsis:

Ratiorine pseudo-slice of life in an Imperial Roman setting. A forbidden love between Veritas Ratio Cicurinus, a very wealthy patrician and one of his father's slaves, Aventurine, full of fluff, comfort, hornyness, and some occasionals "wtf, this shit escalated quickly, why are there intestines on the floor?". Which could be debated to be a pretty good day in Ancient Rome, depending on who you ask.

Expect both niche historical data and absolute creative inaccuracies that would put any historian in a coma. Please, my dear historians, enter with caution; this is going to be a wild ride.

IMPORTANT:

Slavery is going to be one of the most central and serious themes dealt with in this fanfic, including child-slavery. So please, enter with genuine caution if it's something it could trigger you.

Some chapters could be darker than others. Please always read the tags and notes.

It will primarily be independent, interconnected short chapters about their life together, relationship, hardships and cute moments, and I plan to upload it without any type of chronological order, only vibes. The story is completed in my head, and I really want to write moments between them. That's why I'm always going to put a temporal reference, so y'all know, when there are multiple chapters, in what moment we are. Either way, there are going to be some longer, more serious chapters and some subplots. If everything goes as my brain wants, there are going to be at least 2 of those.

Why did he need the Sol Invictus in this place, he thought, when he had Aventurine illuminating the entire room before him? And almost completely forgetting the stress he'd been carrying, he swam closer until he was beside him, leaning on the edge just to look him straight in the eye. A few white clouds occasionally obscured the sun, and when they moved, the rays flashed. And that's exactly when it happened. Perhaps it wasn't visible from where the boys were standing, but Veritas witnessed the subtle reflections the sun cast on that earring, contrasting beautifully with the pale skin of its new owner, making his blond hair seem to shine like the sun itself as it moved gracefully around his cheerful face. And for the first time in quite some time, Veritas's smile faded. His chest ached. He discreetly placed a hand there. He knew exactly what was wrong. It's obvious I'm down bad for down bad Ratiorine in any world, right? I should be reading for my thesis, and here I am reading about ancient Roman law. It's fk crazy interesting, actually.

I just LOVE so much how stupidly restrictive Ancient Rome was, even as a free man. Because I'm reviewing what I know for a Ratiorine fic (thanks, Google Scholar and Dialnet), and let me tell you, it was WORSE than I remembered.

Did you know that you could be a 50-year-old rich free man, with 3 marriages, 12 children, 24 grandchildren, and a long and respectable political carrier and the principal breadwinner with your side hustle, and that if your 85-year-old dad was still alive, you would still be under his tutelage? :D

Like... All of the money you gain, everything you buy... It would be in your father's name :D EVERYTHING. Even the decisions regarding your descendants, it would still be your dad who had the last word.

The grandad wants to sell his own grandson as a slave because lol? You, as the father, can only say, "Yep, at your desire, father" (actually, this specific, very legal thing was heavily restricted, but still).

Roman men didn't have, like we have today, a moment of expected independence. ¿What is that? No no. You are under legal parental authority UNTIL the father dies. There were exceptions, yes, but the legal norm was that you, as a man, were under your father/grandad tutelage until they all died. You had a bad relationship with your father? No, the you fk didn't; that man could legally kill you if he wanted.

(Now, we don't mention women, because that was directly ridiculous, they didn't even have a proper "name" like their brothers)

my ratiorine fwb comic is done! i started this about a year ago and really wanted to challenge myself to illustrate a longer scene with these two, one where you could really see how deeply they care about each other but also their difficulties in putting those feelings into words.

i don't usually write much so i definitely went out of my comfort zone for this.. but i hope you all enjoy!

I just did my tesis proyect presentation (in my field is a presentation you do in first year to present your progress to other ) and I was nervous as fk.
