Okay but you forgot the best part! During the scene where Aragorn, Gandalf and the other Main CharaktersTM ride ahead to go shout at the gate (and talk to the mouth of sauron in the extended edition) they were very firmly told only to ride up ahead “this far” because that area was cleared and beyond that it wasn’t.
But. Viggo Mortensen is absolutely mad and lead them just…. a bit farther than that. Everyone else was very scared they might blow up any second. Viggo said it “added a little extra tension”.

Viggo was just Like That™ for the whole trilogy, taking method acting to extreme levels:
he would spend multiple days walking overland to locations in full pack, sword, & armour when everyone else was travelling in trucks
refused to use any prop swords that weren’t actual steel
basically lived in the forest in-costume, sleeping rough under the sky, even fishing & foraging for his food when possible
often spent hours in the barn just bonding with the horses. He adopted the horse he rode, Uranus, after filming ended
repaired all his own gear by hand, which was often since he never took it off
had a tooth knocked out during filming but had the crew simply glue it back in place so they could keep filming
the instructor who taught everyone swordplay said Viggo was the best swordsman he had ever trained
carried his sword literally everywhere & practiced non-stop, resulting in the cops being called when locals reported “a wild man swinging a sword around his head" outside a gym in Wellington
an orc actor fucked up & accidentally threw a dagger directly into Viggo’s face, but Viggo just deflected it with his sword. They kept that shot
infamously broke 3 toes kicking that helmet but stayed in-character & sold his very real scream as part of the scene. They also kept that shot
Viggo insists on doing his own stunts; in The Two Towers where Aragorn is unconscious & floating down the river, the strong current pulled him underwater for so long that a rescue team had to go in to save him. Viggo survived by grabbing a boulder on the riverbed and pulling himself to the surface
It’s probably more accurate to say that Aragorn played Viggo Mortensen in the off season, so I’m 100% unsurprised to hear he put a whole crowd of fellow actors in genuine mortal peril for a 12% increase in authenticity

This is your reminder today that Irene Adler in the original Conan Doyle story is literally not a criminal. She never commits a crime.
Nor is she a seductress in any kind of negative or manipulative sense - she has a mutual relationship with a powerful man who then breaks up with her, and afterwards she keeps protection against him in the form of evidence that the relationship existed. She HAS blackmail material, she even waves it at him threateningly because he treated her like shit, but she never even uses it.
Irene Adler is not a thief, femme fatale, or blackmailer. She's just a cool lady that wants to be left alone.

If your Sherlock Holmes adaptation has a character whose identifying qualities are that she is a seductive criminal in love with Holmes, you have created a character that is basically the literal opposite of Irene Adler and you should name her something else.
She's also -- and I cannot stress this enough -- from New Jersey. IMO this is the single most important detail missing from all the adaptations -- IRENE ADLER IS FROM NEW JERSEY.
Please just once in my life I would like to see this adapted faithfully it would be the funniest fucking thing ever.
"Whether someone understands it or not, these are the consequences of the political views they're espousing" is a pretty important analysis tool for online movements because quite honestly, over half of everyone engaging in politics online have no foundations for the stuff they're saying and are just saying whatever makes them feel like a member of an in-group.
If your in-group is "the left" you're very much not immune to this. In fact, trying to do left-wing politics without even trying to build a foundational political understanding is a great way to end up as a neo-nazi with a tumblr accent rather than an effective left-wing advocate.

"the purpose of a system is what it does" is a great phrase for reminding people not to let intentions cloud outcomes, but obviously it's overstating the case, if you take it seriously and critically examine a system you will typically find that it does many things: the medical profession for example enriches doctors, saves lives, kills patients, produces vast amounts of paperwork, etc. etc. and it would be a little misleading to say that the purpose of doctors before the 20th century was to give people sepsis, even though it's very important to note that this was a common outcome and it might have reasonably deterred you from seeing a doctor back then.

examining the whole range of outcomes and why they happen will certainly tell you a lot more about a system than what it claims to do, but the intentions behind those outcomes provide vital context for understanding why they happen, otherwise you might find yourself telling a kid that hospitals are full of "surgeons" who stab people with sharp tools and those people sometimes die as a result without clarifying the reason why they do this.

some people really didn't like me calling Ragatha a rich white woman and I don't have my thoughts perfectly sorted out but i don't think it's random that a cis rich girl is presented as a soft feminine agreeable tortured victim of her abusive mother while homeless trans girl is spiky and difficult perpetuator of generational abuse from her mother
wealth and high social status provide a safety net that allows a person to remain agreeable, soft, and passive, you don't always have to fight tooth and nail just to exist, which makes it easier for a character to be framed as a pure and compliant victim
while characters from marginalized backgrounds often have to adopt a defensive or "difficult" exterior just to survive, which media often misinterprets as inherent malice or toxic behavior, framing them as the abuser rather than another victim of the broken system
yes rich people can still be abuse victims, that doesn't mean their experiences are the same as the rest of us losers, I'm not crazy for simply acknowledging it
