found this rad old bedsheet while thrifting and knew it was gonna make something great.

This pattern is the Sport Shorts by Friday Pattern Company, its completely free! (But u can throw some $$ their way too) and ive been wanting to make them for a while.

I made some mods as well:

-lenthened the hem 2 inches

-scooped the top of the front shorts (that gets sewn to the waistband) by an inch towards the center front to tilt the waistband so it sits below my stomach.

-I also created a front pocket facing(? Not actually sure what the pattern peice should be called) to make pocket bags instead of having a patch pocket. I like how pocket bags hold chunky items like car keys better.

-finally added a patch pocket to the right butt. A nessesity for my phone.

This makes it sound like a lot but they were all very easy mods overall and made the most comfy shorts! Just in time for a heatwave '-.-

I did a cool thing.

It’s rather crude, but it’s a functional first attempt.

I wanted to try my hand at making a spindle so I roughly whittled a a stick and put a weight on it.

(Yes, the weight is just some metal washers with duck tape)

As expected, it’s not the most balanced and I would’ve liked the stick to be longer, but it works okay once I’ve wound the cop a bit.

I spun a single with some of my random wool roving then plied it on the spindle—it actually turned out okay!

I’m more confident now about my ability to produce clothing in a post-apocalyptic setting…

Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!

as a new englander i’ve rarely ventured into the world of summer knits but i have to say im hooked, i loved making this and i love the look and feel of the finished garment.

i’ve been wanting to experiment with t shirt patterns that can be easily modified to accommodate for intarsia because i have a lot of silly little shirts i want to make. this was my first time using a cotton-dominant yarn blend for a garment. definitely have some adjustments as far as binding off for the folded hem. i especially love the short-row sleeves, they really make it look like a classic tee in a way that most other sleeve techniques miss

pattern is Sunshine Tee by Andrea Gaughan and i used Knitting For Olive cotton merino in line yellow. I made size 4 and used just a little bit more than 3 skeins

What about the final version of the flag by the original creator?

Gilbert Baker added a 9th stripe shortly before his death, with the new stripe representing diversity. He added this stripe in reaction to the 2016 US election. It’s unfortunately not as well known as the 8 and 6 striped versions.

i made her zebra socks a couple of years ago, and it was great fun. They have the same construction as these, and the pattern was easy to follow and they have a nice fit

Finally bought some dye and have been having so much fun with optical color mixing. I decided to start with cmyk primaries to get some vibrant color options.

So far I've only mixed up the main batch of colors, but I'll split them up and create a palatte of tints and shades once I have access to a scale again.

I don't have any fancy tools and have been blending the fiber by hand, so it's probably best I have a forced break for the sake of my fingers. Once I'm done I should have a very useful set of 57 2g swatches to play with! (Plus 5 more for a set of grayscale swatches)

If I'm still up for it, I might repeat the whole thing with my classic red, yellow, blue primary dye set. For a truly massive set of heather swatches.

Finally finished my little belt pouch, from a pattern by Twig and Tale.

Turned out a bit more complex than I thought - it's fully lined and interfaced, with an inside pocket. And of course I picked the most serrated leaf option, because nothing tests rusty sewing skills like trying to make a neat edge out of a three-layer convolution.

My puppy has already tried to steal it a few times, so it must smell very good (mostly of me since I've been handling it for hours). But this one's just for me - I plan to carry a little notebook or a sketchbook in it, for whimsical purposes.

What a perfectly fall color story, and a great match for the maple leaf! I really like this bag pattern and all the leafy add on options. That toggle closure is a perfect final touch too.

As I'm spending the summer away from my looms I thought it would be a good time to learn heddle band weaving. Goal = new shoelaces.

I haven't seen a heddle like that before! What's the purpose of the 3 different slot heights and variable spacing?

This heddle has a pattern pick-up shed (the mid-lenght slots)

You can see that when I rise or lower the heddle, the green warp threads stay level, which makes it easier to pick up patterns. Structure behind the pattern slits is a rib weave, and I think it helps the pick-up pattern show up easier since it makes more even surface compared to plainweave.
