These two rocked it at the Black Minds Matter Hearing at the CA State Capitol. Their testimony helped to pass new draft legislation on School Climate and Resortative Justice through the Education Commiitee, a first step in ensuring student voice and student need is at the center of any school reform conversations. Now onto to the Appropriations Committee!

Hands down the best description of what"s wrong with the educations system in the United States and what we can do to fix it. If you want to really understand the challenges and what can be done to remedy them- start by watching this Ted Talk!!!
We also need some one to believe in us. Teachers have the ability to help students believe- and then anything is possible!
Teaching is a relationship, and the first rule of relationships is that you have to show up. You cannot maintain a relationship through proxies, in absentia, on autopilot, or by wearing a big, thick mask. You have to be present. You have to be honest. You have to show up.
RELATIONSHIPS MATTER IN SCHOOLS!
“ Challenging school policy is hard enough for adults. Students are at an even greater disadvantage. Not only do they risk alienating the very people who determine their futures, but they also risk alienating their peers, many of whom mistakenly believe that starting school any later (however late that may be) will mean too little time for homework, extracurriculars, and after-school jobs (as well as freedom that comes from 2 p.m. dismissals).” @ http://www.startschoollater.net/student-hall-of-fame.html
