it’s been 12 hours, time for my heated rivalry episode 3 thoughts !!! spoilers ahead.

oh scott and kip, i love you both so much, and i’m actually really happy with this episode! the way jacob condensed an insta love story into one episode was crazy but i honestly thought it worked. yes, he changed the timeline (i did immediately start crying when i saw that all the skip stuff happened before sochi, oh scott you poor lovestruck fool) but i’m super curious to see how he plays out the stanley cup kiss. i imagine they’ll either be long distance or kind of broken up in the 3 years between sochi and 2017, and the kiss will be the defining moment for both couples.

some comments i wanted to address from twitter!! yes, the story is an insta love story, but the straw+berry/hockey scenes all happen over the course of at least a week, if not two, just like the book. the fundraiser is two months after the meetcute, which is two months before sochi. some people were like “it’s been 24 hours slow down!!!” when it had been at least a week, which is practically book speed.

my other notes are just about how good of a job jacob did showing the anxiety and fear scott has of losing everything he knows and loves, in which a short time. he just wanted someone to come home to, but he can’t lose his dream for the love he wants, and kip can’t let love put him back in the closet.

and the socks, oh my god, jacob does such a good job at visual metaphors, and the fact that scott hides the banana socks under his hockey socks, hiding his love with his dream, hurt so much.

i would just like to say that getting this show as a queer canadian has been everything i’ve wanted for years. yes, i only read the books in october, but popular queer representation, with a guaranteed happy ending, has been sorely missed my whole life and i’ve never been happier

am i upset about buck and tommy? absolutely. to lose another canon queer relationship on an incredibly popular mainstream show like 9-1-1 feels like a kick in the chest. can i also recognize that Oliver is really excited to explore a bisexual buck? absolutely. It’s two sides of a coin i didn’t want to have to flip, but if i can still have canon bisexual representation on tv, i guess I’ll take it.
