since people are starting to move away from wotc, instead of going to pathfinder or letting another big-name group swing in, a couple indie rpg systems that i would love for people to get into:
swordsfall is an afropunk sci-fantasy rpg that has put a ton of effort into worldbuilding based on pre-colonial africa, has a really cool take on advantage/disadvantage, and whose first official book is currently on sale for 5 dollars!
the fate system is meant for general usage, and it has a character creation system i really enjoy!! it also comes with several different genres built in - there’s superhero, scifi, traditional fantasy, pirating, and lots of tips on how the existing rules might expand into other settings.
powered by the apocalpyse isn’t actually a system, it’s just any indie title that is inspired, either lore or mechanics-wise, by the apocalypse world system. essentially, pbta is a list of different indie titles, and a good place to start if you have a really specific idea for a world you want to go off of.
the core rules for swordsfall, fate, & most of the pbta entries are free, but i highly recommend you take the time to support indie creators financially - and, if you can’t afford to do so, that you take other steps to support them!
The Wagadu Chronicles is also an afrofantasy dnd setting and upcoming online rpg game!! their twitter has a lot of really cool stuff!
fyi the point of fucking up your data patterns isnt to avoid suspicion. it’s to make EVERYONE suspicious. same logic as the bloc, pals. protect your comrades, be suspicious. ESPECIALLY if you aren’t doing anything likely to get you arrested.
the state is less omniscient and significantly more incompetent than you’d think. overextend their resources at every possible opportunity. make them cry wolf repeatedly. run their data analysis agents fucking ragged. and strike. attack.
YES i’m a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but it’s almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used can’t be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if they’re collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that
This makes me think that we need WAAAY more apps that generate junk data
Apps that generate junk data? tell me moooore.
Ooh I know this one!
Ad Nauseum is an adblocker that stores the ads it blocks and continuously generates fake clicks, fucking with analytics and costing the ad companies money
TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)
WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string “FuckOff”. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I can’t seem to find it
Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so that’s good enough for me
@afraidofamericans
I love all of this. anyone have recommendations for chrome users?
@biggest-gaudiest-patronuses TrackMeNot, WhatCampaign, and Privacy Possum are all available through the chrome store, and although google has tried to ban Ad Nauseum, you can still get it directly from the developers
Though if you’re trying to subvert tracking and lose surveillance companies money, a good first step is to switch to Firefox if possible
I use Firefox, and do these apps/extensions work there?
@anotherdayforchaosfay
The first set of links I posted are for Firefox.
Inspiration is hard lately so, I decided to make smth fun! Here’s a simple character prompt sheet made by me! All you need is some time and a D20. Tag me, if you make a character with this sheet, I’d looove to see the results!!
I rolled and here’s my result: A smug firbolg knight with an otherworldly guardian at his side!
Trinkets, 23: Interesting baubles, semi magical objects and items touched by mystery.
A hollowed-out hen’s egg that squawks loudly when broken and immediately puts itself back together.
A five-sided lantern made of steel. Instead of clear panes, each side of the lantern has a random pattern of stained glass. When lit, it bathes the area in bright multi-colored light cast from the lantern’s colored glass.
A small painting portraying dozens of stone towers rising up in the middle of the sea. The night’s sky seems to show more miniature towers upside down in the night’s sky with the lights from their tips glowing like stars. On the back of the painting in a corner is written, “There’s always a lighthouse. There’s always a man. There’s always a city” in elegant feminine script.
A long, white banner which seems to be made of a single piece, neither woven, nor dyed, nor painted. A figure like a serpent, scaled in scarlet and gold, runs the entire length. It has scaled legs, feet with five long, golden claws on each, and a great head with a golden mane and eyes like the sun. The banner blows strongly in the slightest breeze and the stirring of the banner make the dragon seem to move as if alive. The banner folds up into a compact square and never becomes stained or dirtied.
A thick candle that when lit, fills the air with the smell of hot bacon and eggs
A dusty ball of unknown material that is pristinely white. At the merest touch, it swirls with a myriad of colors that shifts to different hues as the creature’s fingers move across it.
A smoking pipe carved in the shape of reptilian claw holding an eye, which serves as the pipe’s bowl. The bowl will light itself by telepathic command by a creature that holds it.
A smoking pipe made of multicolored blown glass bent in a semicircle making it look like a rainbow. Smoke blown from the pipe’s contents becomes similarly rainbow colored.
An ivory bracelet in the shape of an acrobat bent over backwards so her wrists are tied to his ankles.
An ornate mask made of silver and lace, made for the masquerade parties of nobles. The inside of the mask is covered in symbols and images of eyes of all shapes and colors. A creature wearing the mask constantly feels as if they are being watched.

Upon anon request- rolling tables for meals and rations! They’re a bit simple, given how quickly they were made, but they can throw together a quick meal. Finally, my research of medieval and renaissance food comes in handy.
A quick rolling table for clothing, based on clothing from the medieval and renaissance period. Yes, there is the possibility of wearing no shirt and two vests on the first page. Yes that was somewhat intentional. I think I’m funny at 2 am.
I got a photo from the manufacturer of the final sample of my Yiddishkeit evil eye embroidered patch, so I made a mock-up showing what it will look like on its backing card, which explains the significance of the phrase קײן עין־הרע/kein ayin hara and the fish symbolism.
Can’t wait to get these in hand!
Edit: went ahead and created a pre-order page for the patch. Expected to ship second half of August. Make sure to grab the flat-fee shipping listing if you order.
Edit 9/24/19: (cuz this post is still going around) these are totally sold out at the moment but there will be a restock in the future, following me is the best way to get updates if you missed out.

So this is actually a single page from a pdf supplement by Sean K. Reynolds and Shanna Germain called Consent in Gaming. The pdf has several tools and tips for making your table as open and friendly as possible, and it can be downloaded for free »HERE«.
