In the aftermath of the Riddler's attack on Gotham, Bruce Wayne steps up to continue his family's legacy of philanthropy, hoping to help Gotham as both Batman and as Bruce Wayne. At the same time, Clark Kent - along with Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen - is assigned by the Daily Planet to visit Gotham and do a report on Gotham's recovery. Clark, however, has a secondary motive in taking on the Gotham assignment: getting an audience with the Batman. And Bruce, only just now hearing the reports of Superman after months of search and rescue, begins to take an interest in his existence and wonders if he will be ally or enemy, friend or foe.

Maybe a sensitive question but do you think it’s important to acknowledge Selina’s sex work origins/history?She was a child when it happened so it’s definitely more sex trafficking.Has her trauma over being a victim of childhood prostitution ever been acknowledged?

It used to be acknowledged more frequently back when Dc was more willing to write about mature topics that didn’t pander to child audiences. Selina is very young when many horrible and disturbing things happen. Reading her origins you just want someone to give her a break and not take advantage of her 💔

To cope, I think Selina represses a lot of things, and pushes them from her mind, but would also occasionally make allusions to her past

And unfortunately when it gets brought up in non Catwoman stories it tends to either be a joke about her being a dominatrix that she’ll brush off or it’s used to shame her, like in heart of hush where Hush calls her some very misogynistic names like “gutter slut” to make Bruce angry.

Selina is a survivor to the core, and doesn’t outwardly talk about what she’s been through, but she does think about it, and seems to sometimes get vivid moments of reflection on her trauma that affect her deeply

Selina escaped Seagate (basically a Juvie for female orphans) where she had been sent for running away from foster care after her father’s death, at around 11 or 12 years old, and then after her time with the Carnival and Mama Fortuna, she begins selling her body to survive at around 15 and continues until she’s 19.

The book that dives the most into her time as a sex worker is “Her sister’s keeper” though it touches little on her being trafficked as a child, since at this point, Selina has already long lost her innocence. Detective Flannery is the one one to even mention Selina’s age

I do think this part of her life is important to understanding her drive to protect the innocent, as well as the innocence of children. Her own lost innocence is a huge part of her drive to being Catwoman.

Much like Bruce bonded with Dick over their shared tragedy, and took him in so that he wouldn’t be alone, Selina bonded with Holly over their shared loss of innocence to the streets of Gotham, and a desire to protect her. Same with Arizona. This is why Selina gets upset when Holly goes back to the streets and why she cares so much about the Allytown kids.

In short, yes I think this part of her character is very important for understanding why it’s so personal for her.

i just realised that with how grungy The Batman made Gotham look, how intense battinson was,

Dick Grayson is going to be a fucking menace, holy shit.

He is going to be absoltely tiny, soul shatteringly sad and too angry to grieve properly. Like a water drenched kitten so small you can see the ridges of its spine through its fur and despite its obvious need of help it hisses at the hand offering to pet it despite the fact that it really would like to be held right now. It hisses in fear of being let go again, eventually.

And Bruce would see so much of himself in that, and want to help him through that rage, that grief. But he hasn't worked it out yet, not really, and so he must learn how in order to help his kid through it.

But I think it would be so funny if, because Dick was so young when Bruce took him in, that so many people forget that Dick isn’t Bruce’s biological child. Like once Dick is older than say 16/17, most interviewers and reporters and journalists drop the “adopted” part of “adopted son,” and sometimes they might even comment on how much Dick looks like Bruce, how similar they both are.

And maybe sometimes Dick and Bruce even forget. Like Dick knows Bruce isn’t his biological dad, but maybe he thinks of his parents as like “mom and first dad” and Bruce is “second dad” and he sort of forgets that he’s not actually related to Bruce.

Bruce knows that most of kids are adopted. But the others were all older when Bruce first took them in (maybe they were all at least 13, so already in their teens) but Dick was an itty bitty little thing. He was only 8. And he didn’t go to school at first when Bruce took him in, because he had been home schooled and he’d been nervous about going to a normal school, so Bruce didn’t make him start going to Gotham Academy until the following Fall, and even then he was only in the third grade. Practically a baby.

Maybe when Dick is in his 20s, he and his siblings are being interviewed before a gala. And something comes up about being adopted, and the others all say their bits, but then when the interviewer turns to Dick, he’s just chilling with his arm around Damian, and he looks at the interviewer like he’s waiting for the next question. And maybe the interviewer is looking at his notes, looking for the next question, and Jason elbows Dick in the ribs and just says, “Dickface, don’t you have anything to add?”

And Dick hisses and swats Jason’s arm in retaliation, but he looks confused. And then he just, “Oh, I’m adopted too! I forgot lmao” and all of his siblings are so confused at how he can forget that, but Dick just smiles and chats with the interviewer (who’s looking very sheepish bc he also forgot). The only one who doesn’t look baffled is Damian, because Damian firmly believes that if any of his siblings turn out to secretly be his blood sibling, it will be Dick. He maybe sort of hopes it will happen sometimes.

Maybe when they’re around the Justice League as Batman and Nightwing, a newer member might ask how old Batman was when Nightwing was born. And they both sort of blue screen for a minute before Dick laughs and says, “oh, that’s right, I’m adopted! He’s only like 15 years older than me, give or take.”

“Don’t you dare age me,” Bruce hisses. “I’m only 14 years older than you.”

Dick just snorts at him. The other JL member looks so startled that Batman seems to actually have a sense of humor.
