You wake up with the ringing of your phone blasting through the room, the voice of your favorite singer filling your ears. Your body jerks up and you struggle to disentangle yourself from the messy covers, trying to reach the device on the nightstand.
“Turn that off!” The boy lying beside you groans.
You finally push the stop button, bringing yourself to a sitting position and sighing, your mind still clouded from having your sleep interrupted. “Sorry about that, Wooj.”
Woojin removes the covers from his face and yawns, blinking at you. “Why did you even set up an alarm this early? It’s Saturday.”
“I have places to be,” you reply, throwing your legs off the bed and standing up, running your fingers through the messy strands of your hair.
“Sure you do.” Woojin mumbles, readjusting himself and placing his hands under his head. “Are you meeting up with anyone?”
“You know it’s none of your business, right?”
Standing up, you pace around the room, picking up your discarded clothes on the floor and holding them up against your chest. You can feel Woojin’s eyes following your every movement, both of you fully aware you’re wearing his hockey jersey.
“Ouch. I was just asking.” He sits up on the bed, the blanket sliding off and revealing his toned chest.
You try your best to ignore his current state, walking back to your phone. “If you really need to know, I have a tutoring session with Jihoon.”
You turn your head to stare at him, raising an eyebrow. “What? You cannot possibly be jealous of your own friend. I mean… Are you?”
Woojin scoffs, lying back on the bed and resuming his previous position. “Of course not, I just thought he didn’t need your help anymore. Besides, you are spending more time with him than me. We might have an arrangement, but I’m still your best friend.”
There it is. The words that draw the line, just when you start to ask yourself if you’re both starting to cross it. It all started after a game of truth or dare, both of you drunk enough to admit you were attracted to each other, leading to the first of many nights you would spend in his bed.Â
It should be nothing more than hooking up whenever the two of you were free and desperately needed a distraction from your stressful college life. Nothing really changed for a while, but the more you spent time in his arms, the more you would feel different whenever he casually touched you, hugged you or even held your hand. What were just normal occurrences in your friendship turned into something more for you; something to avoid when you were feeling particularly confused about your feelings.
Which is why you set up an alarm to leave early. And also why you lied about meeting Jihoon, to see if it would cause any sort of reaction. But what did that even mean? Woojin was obviously jealous, but to what extent? And why?
Your relationship walks on a very thin line, and you don’t know if it’s safe enough to cross it. You’re not sure if you want to find out.
A pair of hands sneaks around your waist, startling you, and Woojin buries his face on your neck.
“Can’t you ditch him? Just for today.”
“Woojin…” You begin, but he interrupts by kissing your skin.
You sigh, butterflies rising in your stomach as he trails his kisses down to your exposed collarbone. “Fine. Just this once.”
