I don’t know how many years it’s been since Once Upon a Time aired but I still can’t believe that they went like 95% of the way on the Henry Has Two Mommies plot but stopped just short of actually making them gay. Like I honestly believe that they wrote themselves into a corner and like they actually originally just wanted Henry to end up with Emma, but they didn’t realise how sympathetic they made Regina or how fucked up it was to just have the birth mother come along and say ‘well you raised him for 10 years but he’s mine now’ but they didn’t want to backtrack so they just sorta had Regina & Emma fall into this weird co-parenting thing without ever addressing how weird it would be for an adoptive parent to just… decide to split custody with the birth parent… because she’s basically pressured into it and she has no legal recourse outside of the birth mother’s own parents… but apparently having her decide to form a family with Emma & Henry because she’s fallen in love with Emma was a bridge too far.

It’s just so bizarre to me how resistant they were to taking that tiny extra step to make it make sense when they basically made the three of them a nuclear family anyway but gave Regina no reason to motivate why she would do such a thing except that she had no choice if she wanted to stay in her son’s life.

no because why did they establish a seasons-long enemies to co-parents to allies to friends arc with the backdrop lore of everything in their lives leading to them being destined to meet and destroy each other if they weren't gonna take the final little nudge into romance ... imagine the poetic satisfaction of the two of them reclaiming agency in their story and saying a final fuck-you to fate by loving each other instead of destroying each other ... when the recurring theme of the whole fucking show is that true love conquers all ... like, finish the arc cowards it was RIGHT THERE
