On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.

I love Our Lady of the Underground I love Amber Gray's performance as Persephone I love Persephone in general. Have I mentioned I would kill to play Persephone in any production I get the chance at even a tiny local one?

What do you mean Eurydice was audibly crying during Flowers?? Hello?? That song destroys me already you didn't have to make it SADDER

I don't know if this was intentional, but I couldn't hear the worker's individual accents UNTIL If It's True. Only after that could I hear their accents as they sang. Something about the idea of their accents coming back as they're given hope.. as they remember who they are outside of the assembly line.. it's really really good

Edit with a few things I forgot:

Eurydice laying back on the table during Wedding Song and covering her eyes, just as she covers her eyes with the coins of her ticket. The foreshadowing got me ouch

Having the shot frame Orpheus directly behind Eurydice during her first verse of Chant was genius

Watched Disney's Hercules last night with my Hadestown, Percy Jackson, EPIC The Musical, and Actual Greek Mythology obsessed kids, and it was great. Stand out moments:

Every wide shot on Olympus became a rapid-fire god ID challenge

SCREAMING with excitement when Hermes casually mentions that Orpheus did his flower arrangement

Short discussion of how changing Charon to some random undead guy emphasizes something about this Hades.

"Wait, aren't those the Grey Sisters?"

Nerdy excitement--like, "I would have been so disappointed if they left THAT one out"--for baby vs snakes

My youngest trying HARD and failing to identify the Hydra before the heads start getting chopped--then immediately pointing out that there should be two new heads, not three.

Her first guess (I asked her before it came onscreen) was the Nemean Lion, so she was deeply gratified to see Herc posing wearing a lion pelt after "Zero to Hero." Had no idea who Scar was.

Same kid turned into the Leo Pointing meme when Phil read off a Hero Agenda comprised of some of Hercules' actual labors

Appropriate despair when Herc gave up his powers and joy when he got them back, and when he achieved godhood. Excited exclamations of "She's HURT so he gets his POWERS back!" And "!!! He's a TRUE HERO!" Love to see it.

When Herc turned away from Olympus for Meg, one of the kids gasped, "They're gonna make her a god too!" and then was even more excited that they didn't go that route.

Very fun evening.

Everyone loves a cycle aware Orpheus but what about a cycle aware Eurydice? Eurydice who tries her hardest to resist the hunger and the cold. Tries to convince Orpheus to just LOOK UP time and time again to no avail. Eurydice who KNOWS and still fails. She knows he’s gonna turn around. She knows they’re not gonna make it out of hell together. But she hopes. Every time she hopes that he loves her a little bit less than the last time. Hopes he won’t look back. But of course, Orpheus is still Orpheus. And he loves her more than anything.

Just got out of the theater from seeing the Hadestown proshot, and it was absolutely incredible, but I do believe Christopher Nolan went through the runtime of Hadestown, found all the quietest and most emotional moments, and decided to put loud as fuck explosions in The Odyssey at exactly those times as a malicious plot to ruin the moviegoing experience of me, specifically

More thoughts about Hadestown but what makes Reeve’s interpretation of Orpheus so special to me is that you can tell this isn’t the first time he’s been abandoned before. Hermes even tells us at the beginning “Orpheus was a son of a muse…sometimes they abandon you.” But this is the first version of the show where it actually clicked in my mind that the reason Orpheus wanted to save Eurydice so bad is because he didn’t want to loose her too and it’s also why Hermes immediately dismisses Eurydice’s death “you’ll find another muse some where.”
