My life is just a constant journey to seek warmth. No metaphor. I mean like coats and jackets. Getting under the sheets and standing under heat lamps. Soup.

This meme made by people from Oaxaca to demonstrate the role of Canadian mining companies in extraction and terrorism of the people in Latin America (it reads âwhen you visit Canada vs when Canada visits youâ) was super poignant and important, but it also inspired a lot of reflection on the invisible violence and displacement of Treaty 7 people that went into âpreservingâ places like Lake Louise for settler consumption, and how âpreservingâ a place for its beauty is a continuation of the same imperialist settler logic that drives the resource extraction of Indigenous lands.Â
This makes solidarity and awareness of how Canada harms Indigenous people worldwide even more important.Â
