🌡 - to take care of my sick muse on valentine’s day - kurtbastian
Sebastian had been avoiding Valentine’s Day like it was the plague. It wasn’t just that he wasn’t romantic, nor was it just because he announced how he thought the day was stupid, simply because he was single, though he tended to leave that last part out, but it was mostly because he had spent all day watching both Mike and Puck be showered with Valentine’s Day gift, and had to spend all day overhearing all of their plans. It was stupid, but a part of him had actually thought that Mike might have asked him to do something, even just to hang out, since Sebastian still wasn’t quite sure if Mike was gay, or just being really nice, but it still kind of hurt him to see. And with Puck? Well he just hated when the other felt special or cared for, because he didn’t feel like he deserved it. Was Sebastian not more deserving than Puck, after everything he’d done? But, try as he may to ignore Valentine’s day, it was impossible while at school. He’d never really cared about people showing too much PDA… except for now.
Sebastian liked school, therefore it was a strange feeling when he was so utterly glad to get the hell out of there. His plans of avoiding anymore Valentine’s day shit came to a staggering holt when he got a call from his father to head to the mall and pick up some items that had come in that he desperately needed. Sebastian wasn’t really in a position to tell his father no since he had borrowed his car after all, but that didn’t stop Burt from talking about a special evening he had planned for his date. Sebastian tried to sound positive, giving his father some encouragement, but GOD did he want to tell him to shut up and that Valentine’s day was stupid!
Stomaching the ridiculous amounts of pink, red, and white splattered across the mall, Sebastian was in and out as fast as he could, though he had definitely met his quota of eye rolls and refraining from making gagging noises for the day.
The relief he felt once he had turned into his street was immediate! Finally he could get away from it all! He could spend the night watching TV or reading, ordering take out and just be finally free of the constantly reminder that Today was valentine’s day, and if you weren’t with someone, then you were pathetic !
Pulling up in the drive way, Sebastian was surprised to see that Kurt’s car was still here. He wasn’t even in the garage properly, but mostly parked sideways in the actual drive way. Instead of parking him in, knowing full well that he’d just have to move it later, Sebastian parked out on the street. He had figured that Kurt’s parking job was probably because he was running late, and had parked like a crazy person, ran inside to start getting ready for whatever big night that he and Blaine had arranged before running out. He had hoped to avoid Kurt as well, since Blaine had been sending him all sorts of little Valentine’s day gifts all day, not to mention the amount of times the doorbell rang first thing in the morning when roses and other flowers had arrived.
“God, I hope he didn’t put all of them in the room” Sebastian groaned to himself as he thought about it, though, tried to remind himself that he would have the house to himself tonight, a rare occurrence!
There were things that you just had to accept when you lived in close quarters with other people. The walls weren’t overly thick either, so focus a little too hard and you could hear exactly what was going on inside each room.
That included the bathroom.
It was something that Sebastian just tuned out, these days he didn’t even hear it, or notice it, however he could remember a time when the toilet flushing would seem so loud to him, sometimes waking him up when he had first moved into the house with Kurt and Burt, but now it was just white noise.
However, as he walked upstairs, the sound that he was greeted with, was retching, which made him stop and cringe. Sebastian was sometimes (ALWAYS) sympathetic vomiter. He didn’t do well with the smell alone, but the sound…
“Kurt?” Sebastian called out from outside of their bedroom door, opening it and walking slowly.
“Don’t come i—-“ Kurt’s words were cut off by the sound of vomiting again, which made Sebastian’s stomach turn. He attempted to compose himself as he moved his way toward their shared ensuite, pushing the door open slightly, though his hand was lingering relatively close to his face just in case.
Sebastian couldn’t even come up with a witty comment about how Kurt had his ass up on display because of how the other had his entire head inside of the towel bowl.
The smell was overwhelming, but his own concern for his brother was stronger than the smell.
Sebastian moved in, trying to keep his stomach under control as he listened to the sound of vomiting and just general gagging noises that continued to make his stomach do summersaults before reaching out to rub Kurt’s back. Every so often Sebastian’s body would jerk forward, as though he was going to vomit himself, thankfully though, he’d managed to keep it down.
“What happened?” Sebastian asked, concerned, rubbing small circles into Kurt’s back “Do you need to go to the emergency or something?”
Kurt’s only response was to vomit more, and more, each time reaching up to flush the toilet. Sebastian actually began to worry that he was making it worse by rubbing Kurt’s back.
Kurt looked pale, which was saying something since Kurt always looked pale. He looked more grey, than pale. Sebastian’s main worry was that he had no idea what he was doing. What could he do? He felt helpless in the situation, and honestly, most of his will power was going towards not hurling his guts on top of Kurt’s head.
It took awhile before Kurt’s vomiting seemed to stop throwing up the contents of everything he’d eaten from the past week by the look of it, and considering Kurt was a pretty slim guy, and Sebastian found himself kind of wondered where all of it was coming from, before he could persuade Kurt to have a glass of water. He wasn’t overly good with looking after people, but his mother did drink quite a bit that Sebastian remembered as a kid bringing her glasses of water. He didn’t think Kurt was drunk, but vomiting was vomiting, regardless of what it was from.
Kurt, however, was rambling, and mumbling like a crazy person, kept saying “I have to go” , though could barely seem to pick himself off of the floor.
“I don’t think you’re going anywhere tonight” Sebastian said softly as he handed Kurt another cup of water, watching as his brother rested his head on his arm, his face looking directly into the toilet. He decided not to mention how absolutely gross that was and just be thankful that he’d stopped.
“I’m ok now, I think it’s out of my system” Kurt’s voice was rough and dry sounding, though Sebastian wasn’t buying it for a moment. Kurt moved his legs a bit, almost as though he were trying to push himself up.
“Kurt…” Sebastian said softly, shaking his head before he put his hand down to help his brother up “Maybe you should lie down for a bit. I’ll go get you a bucket in case, and I’ll go fill up a water bottle for you. Come on, up you get” Sebastian made a soft grunting noise as he had to pick up the majority of Kurt’s weight, not realizing how heavy Kurt actually was, before he walked slowly with him, helping him to his bed “Try not to throw up before I get back”
“Don’t say throw up” Kurt sighed, his body curling into a small ball as he groaned.
Sebastian, true to his word, was relatively fast as he found a bucket that Burt had a few old tools in, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, and found an old sports water bottle, and filled it up with the filtered water they kept, grabbing a few aspirin as well before rushing back upstairs, thankfully arriving just as Kurt put his hand over his mouth, practically shoving the bucket directly under his face. A second later and Sebastian would be stripping the sheets as well.
“I got spew on my shirt” Kurt groaned, and the words alone made Sebastian gag a little “What time is it?”
Sebastian had already started moving into Kurt’s draws, pulling out of the shirts he usually wore to bed, not really bothering to ask Kurt what he’d like or what he should do, before he glanced over at the alarm clock “It’s 6”
Kurt made a movement like he was about to get off the bed, but, didn’t quite make it as he fell back down “I’m supposed to meet Blaine at 6”
Maybe it was because of all the commotion when Sebastian had arrived home, or maybe it was just because he didn’t really care, but he’d already forgotten today was Valentine’s day, and already forgotten that Kurt and Blaine probably had plans. For a moment, he felt sympathetic, but it was just a passing feeling before his attention turned to getting a clean shirt for Kurt, and heading back toward the bed.
As much as he wanted to say ‘who cares’, he could see the worry in Kurt’s eyes, and the slight sadness/upset looks he was getting. Sebastian might not have a relationship and therefore be alone on the day of the year where everyone confesses their love, but that didn’t mean that Kurt should suffer if he wanted to participate in such a day with his boyfriend!
“Where’s your phone, I’ll call him” Sebastian barely finished the word before Kurt was handing Sebastian his phone, as well as taking the shirt out of his hands and quickly getting changed, throwing his soiled shirt across the room which was extremely out of character for Kurt.
Sebastian did called…It was just that Blaine didn’t answer.
He hung up instead of leaving a message, and called again. Sebastian repeated this about four or five times before he eventually decided to leave a message.
“Hey Blaine, it’s Sebastian. Kurt’s really sick at the moment, literal spew every where, it’s really gross, anyway, so um, give me a call back or something… I’ll have the phone here. Bye”
Sebastian gave Kurt a small shrug as he turned to face him “He’s not answering”
Kurt sighed, shaking his head “We made a deal this year, that we were not allowed to call each other before the date. It was going to be like a first date again. He’s going to think I ignored him on Valentine’s Day. He’s going to break up with me and I really love him, Sebastian, he’s sooooo good, and I’m just not going to be there and then he’ll leave and cry”
Sebastian raised his eyebrow at his brother before leaning forward, pressing his hand to Kurt’s head. He wasn’t overly sure what people looked for when they did that, but considering Kurt’s head was literally on fire, though it was freezing in the room, so much so that Sebastian still had his jacket on, was saying something.
“Jesus, Kurt, you’re on fire. I think you have a fever. What the hell happened?”
Kurt shrugged, slouching back on the bed, instantly scrambling under the covers “I went to the mall after school to pick up a few things for tonight, I found this cute pocket square that had love hearts on it, I should show you…” Kurt tried to sit up, and Sebastian reached out to push him back down, shaking his head, Kurt not fighting back as he seemed confused before laying back down with no fight at all “What was I saying?”
Sebastian tried hard not to laugh “You went to the mall…”
Kurt made a small ‘ah’ noise “Yeah! And the only thing I ate was a few of samples from this new pretzel shop. They had this one pretzel that actually had a sausage in the middle”
As Sebastian listened to Kurt, he decided to sit down in the bed next to him, after he’d emptied the bucket, and thrown up a little in his own mouth, before making sure to pull the blankets around Kurt, bundling him up, especially when the other started to shiver.
“Sounds like that sausage might have been a little off” Sebastian chuckled, giving Kurt a small “sorry” when the other practically death stared him. It had been hard enough not making a ton of sausage innuendo jokes!
“Blaine is going to be so mad at me” Kurt sighed, and as Sebastian glanced over, he realized his brother was starting to doze off a little, not enough that he was asleep, but enough that he was talking with his eyelids half closed.
“He’ll be fine. You’re sick, I think if he’s irritated that you’re sick then he’s a dick of a boyfriend”
“But he… *yawn*… and we were going to this restaurant that he organized and *subtle gagging noise as though he was going to throw up again* now it’s like I don’t care and I care but he’s gonna think I don’t care…”
Sebastian was trying extremely hard not to laugh at Kurt, especially from the day his words started to slur a little.
“Ahuh… just make sure you keep drinking your water”
“Don’t want to drink the water” Kurt grumbled back, sounding more like a bratty child that his brother, sighing as though the water bottle was a dumbbell as he lazily lifted it to his mouth and tipped it without really lifting his arm, more just, readjusting his head on the pillows “Can you stay here?”
Sebastian switched on the TV, turning the volume down so it was barely a whisper as he loaded up the documentary he’d been watching on minimalism, because Kurt had fallen asleep almost instantly last night when he’d started watching it “Sure, I got no where else to be, can you try and swallow those aspirin?”
By the time the documentary had finished, Kurt was pressed up against Sebastian, drooling on his arm as his mouth hung open slightly, and even though the body heat was unpleasant for Sebastian, Kurt seemed comfortable, and wasn’t vomiting anymore, so Sebastian wasn’t complaining.
Sebastian wasn’t sure how long had passed before he heard the chirping noise coming from Kurt’s phone, as he reached over to get it, noticing Blaine’s name flashing up on the screen. He hadn’t even noticed that there were messages from earlier, though to be fair, Blaine had thought he heard it, but assumed it was just the tv. However, as he glanced down at Kurt’s phone, after he unlocked it (Not mentioning to Kurt that he’d figured out his passcode a while ago) there were a ton of messages from Blaine. A lot of “Where are you?” and “We’re going to lose our reservations!” then to “Ok we’ve lost our reservations” then go a rant on how he’d put so much effort into the evening and why was Kurt still punishing him for something he’d done - Sebastian didn’t understand most of it, but Blaine seemed to think Kurt was angry at him, and in turn he looked as though he was getting defensive about it. As Sebastian held the phone though, the chirping continued however, now the messages had changed to a stream of “Oh my god, I just realized you tried to call” and “I just listened to my voicemail, I’m coming over now”.
Sebastian looked down at the phone, scrolling through the messages, giving a small frown as he looked down at the phone. It wasn’t that he was jealous of his brother’s relationship, it was just that he wished he had someone that would message him the way that Blaine messaged Kurt. Well, except for the rather rude messages he’d started sending when he clearly thought Kurt had stood him up. Sebastian swallowed as he looked over at Kurt, making sure his brother was still asleep, before he started deleting specific messages from Blaine. Now when Kurt would look at his phone, it wasn’t about how Kurt had stood him up, or how he should have called if he was running late, or about how he’d had to book the restaurant months in advance and they were going to lose their reservation, it was just about Blaine’s concern. He also deleted the thousands of apology messages, about what he’d said earlier.
To Blaine:Door should still be open. He’s upstairs.
It was easy to tell when Blaine arrived, especially from how loudly he slammed his door. It gave Sebastian plenty of time to slide himself out of Kurt’s bed, picking up his soiled shirt and throwing it in the hamper before glancing toward the door as he heard footsteps coming up the stairs.
Sebastian put his finger to his lips in a small shhh action before pointing to Kurt’s bed, Blaine instantly rushing over to the bed, kicking his shoes off and instantly sitting down, his hand reaching out to softly stroke Kurt’s forehead.
“Hmmm… Sebastian?” Kurt mumbled before he opened his eyes glancing up at Blaine “Oh, Blaine, Hey, you came”
“I’m sorry baby, I didn’t get Sebastian’s message earlier, but I got here as soon as I could. I’m here now. Do you need anything?” Blaine wrapped his arm around the back of Kurt, bringing the other together in a snuggled position. Blaine had one hand on the back of Kurt’s head, softly stroking him, the other wrapped around him firmly “I love you so much, Happy Valentine’s day baby”
Sebastian tried to hold back his frown as he watched Blaine pressing small kisses to Kurt’s forehead, keeping himself compose and trying his hardest to seem as though he was completely unfazed by everything going on, he pointed toward the door when Blaine did eventually look up, mining the words “I’m gonna go”.
Blaine gave him a quick smile and nod, almost just to let Sebastian knew he acknowledged what he said, before instantly turning his attention back toward Kurt.
Sebastian closed the bedroom door slowly, however once it was closed, he felt the way his face dropped. He tried to ignore it, pushing through as he walked down the stairs, and into the living room, but the moment he sat down, alone, on the sofa, he was hit with an overwhelming feeling of sadness, because he was alone. He hated himself more for being sad that he was alone on Valentine’s day, than he was at the fact he was alone on Valentine’s day. He tried to tell himself that he didn’t care. It was just a stupid day!
He cared, and he hated it.
Sebastian reached into his pocket, and pulled out his cell phone, unlocking and locking it a few times because he continued to change his mind. He wasn’t going to be one of those people who just sat on tinder or grindr looking for a date just because it was Valentine’s day, though the thought did cross his mind.
He opened up his text messages, scrolling through them, not that anyone new had messaged, before he threw caution to the wind and opened up a new message.
To Mike:
Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope you’re having a fun night.
He hit send as fast as he could, knowing he’d change his mind almost instantly before throwing his phone on the opposite end of the sofa so he couldn’t regret or change what he’d done.
When his phone chirped back however, Sebastian jumped across the sofa to get it.
From Mike:
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sebastian. It would have been a fun night if the guy I liked actually asked me out, unless that was you asking me out?
