Sci-fi and fantasy, currently obsessed with The Silmarillion (Maedhros, Maglor, Elrond, Glorfindel, my loves). Tabletop RPGs, especially The One Ring 2e. Trekkie, Transformers, Stargate SG-1. Ao3 is dragonbornsandwaffles. Love a good fix-it fic. Fëanorian at heart. Header by erekuri, icon by veluv_art.
Hello! If you've found this blog, you're probably into sci-fi like Transformers or Star Trek, tabletop RPGs, or the Silmarillion (or shitposting in general). I've been writing fanfiction for over 20 years, though I've only just started posting on Ao3 under the name dragonbornsandwaffles.
I adore a good fix-it fic, and fics that have sci-fi elements like time-loops or eldritch entities have my whole heart. I also love to explore characters and elements like grief, love, strength, and healing. My works tend to give more nuance to female characters and explore who they are outside of their roles in relation to male characters. I do write E works on Ao3 and might link to them from time to time.
Though I am more Fëanorian- and Kidnap Fam-based, I also believe the situation in the Silmarillion is too complex to choose "sides," and I also have great empathy for the Sindar. Everyone was just trying their best in an impossible situation. I don't engage in discourse about who was better, etc. We all love our blorbos and I just don't see the point.
Main blorbos: Maedhros, Maglor, Elrond, and Glorfindel, but I also adore Nerdanel, Míriel, and Haleth. Fëanor as well - he needs a ton of grief counseling. I have a huge soft spot for Elwing, Eluréd, and Elurín. Out of the Valar, Irmo and Estë.
Main ships: Russingon, Maglorfindel, and Fëanel. On the side, Halenthir and Celrond. Erestor Caranthirion truther.

To Begin Again: M, Eldritch and High Kings Maedhros and Elrond AU, 150k+ words. My main longfic series. After being reforged and sent directly to Valinor days before the Darkening, Maedhros discovers that the House of Fëanor can reverse the Doom of the Noldor. Meanwhile, Maglor simultaneously finds himself in Third Age Eriador. The two brothers must learn to control their new powers while simultaneously saving their people from the Doom across the span of three ages. The bulleted fics below are part of this AU.
Every Ending is a Chance: T, 17k words. "As the lava burns his fëa away, Maedhros is reforged and returns to Valinor before the Darkening. But the Valar have something more in store for him, and Maedhros isn't sure he wants to know what..." A prequel of sorts to this universe, covering how Maedhros came to be High King and the specifics of the Doom.
A Place by the Fire: T, 16k words. "A year after Maedhros falls into the fires that are his Doom, Maglor finds himself falling into Third Age Imladris. At one point, he would have welcomed a new home with new friends and family. Now, the thought terrifies him - particularly when the silmaril melded to his hand starts to take on a life of its own. At least Rivendell is a place of love and healing." Part two of the prequels, covering how Maglor reunited with Elrond and started to experience his eldritch powers.
Courage of Stars: M, 116k words and counting (WIP). "An eldritch Maedhros gets more than he bargained for when he attempts a daring rescue in Angband. Meanwhile, in the Third Age, Elrond faces the Valar and Fingolfin, Fingon, and a flamboyance of Fëanorians arrive in Rivendell. Rediscovering family ties and what it means to be at peace whilst finding romance and learning to deal with emerging eldritch powers is a lot harder than it sounds." The main work for To Begin Again. It has time travel, domestic fluff, grieving rituals, accidental child acquisition, terrible puns, actual family bonding between Fëanor and Fingolfin, Fëanorian-Hobbit shenanigans, and more.
Hole in the Wall: G, 2.8k. "Elrond and his children cook up the perfect meal for Celebrían with some less-than-ideal results: Namely, renovating Rivendell one shepherd's pie at a time." A giftfic for the lovely BalrogBalls in the 2024 White Oliphaunt Gift Exchange.
I feel like Bilbo would teach the elves of Rivendell the concept of a mathom with the express purpose of oh so politely asking them over dinner how were the Silmarils not a mathom
AO3 should have an Annotation Mode where you can click to view all of the author's commentary and thoughts about certain parts of the work. A little comment that says "I spent five hours researching vintage radio mechanics for this and didn't even end up using it" or "this is an ancient Hebrew literary technique!" would make my day
Happy Moon Landing Eve! Remember to leave out milk and cookies for Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, and don’t let Michael Collins convince you to prank NASA!
Schlocktober is a month-long writing and drawing event. It was established in 2025 as a response to a kink-free Kinktober calendar that became infamous for having way too many rules.
Its unconventional prompts and loose standards encourage creative freedom and reject morality policing in fandom spaces.
Who's running this thing?
Direct your complaints to patheticfangirl.
Why "schlock"?
It means trash/junk (affectionate), and that's the quality of content I'm striving for with these prompts. It's also fun to say.
But, y'know, if you want to take a prompt and turn it into a masterpiece of a whumpy longfic, go for it. That's creative freedom, baby.
What fandom is this for?
Schlocktober is fandom and ship neutral. At the time of posting, there are 218 different fandoms represented in previous works.
What if I want to combine prompts? What if I want to write or draw things out of order? What if I want to make a video? What if...
Go for it. Get weird. Do an interpretive dance. Mix in last year's prompts if you want to. Let the spirit of schlock move you.
What does [prompt] mean?
You tell me. It's all open to interpretation.
Is RPF okay?
Yes, so long as it's clearly fiction. See rule #3 below.
There are rules?
Just three.
No AI use.
Having the plagiarism machine do your work for you is the opposite of creative. A typo-riddled mess is better than AI-written fanfiction. A stick figure drawn on the back of a napkin is better than soulless AI slop art. Believe in your own ability to produce trashy works.
Tag appropriately.
'Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings' means anything goes. 'No Archive Warnings Apply' means your work is guaranteed not to contain any of the major archive warnings (non-con, major character death, graphic violence, or underage sex).
No irl bigotry or crimes.
Your characters can be as problematic as you'd like, but if you try to post a weird pro-JK Rowling essay or threatening manifesto or something you're not going in the collection. Don't kill the vibes.
Anything else I need to know?
Only the most important thing of all: Have fun.
But someone else is having fun wrong!
Shut the fuck up.
How do I participate?
There's an ao3 collection right here:
Schlocktober on ao3
Otherwise, just tag #schlocktober here or on Bluesky. DMs are open if you tag something and I miss it (I promise it's not intentional).
Will the collection stay open after October?
The collection is open 24/7/365, but you may not get approved as quickly in the off-season as mods don't check often.
I can't read your graphic!

This is not an exaggeration. Your download speed would slow down to the point where Windows would make this kind of absurd estimate, and you’d sigh and leave the room for a while (because you couldn’t use the computer while it was doing this for fear it would crash and lose all your progress) and then you’d come back in 40 minutes and maybe it would now say 52 years or maybe it would say 3 minutes, who knew, not Windows.
