A thing I really appreciate about supergirl is that Kara is never shown to be pretty. Yeha she is pretty regardless because they casted milly fucking alcock but the never show her to be put together. They let her be messy. They let her be rude. They let her fuck up. Every time we see strong confident women in media they are always wearing the tightest bodysuit and look beautiful even when they have been beaten to shit. Not here. Every scene Kara is in she looks like a car had run over her. And they don't "transform" her and make her look prettier by the end to show that she has started to heal. Nah they keep her like that and they change how she acts. I love supergirl.

IDK I think if cis men are being told that being fat will lower their testosterone and make them Insufficiently Masculine, and cis women are being told that being fat will raise their testosterone and make them Excessively Masculine, and fat trans people are being denied the right to medically transition if they're fat, and thin trans people are warned against HRT because it will make them fat (and this is said about both testosterone and estrogen HRT), and androgynous-presenting people are told that only thin people count as androgynous...

a very important distinction i have tried to teach myself and my kids is:

"is this person being annoying to you or are you just feeling annoyed?"

sometimes people do go out of their way to annoy you and that requires a different response! but a lot of the time we attribute maliciousness or ignorance to someone when we are simply feeling annoyed as a response to something that has nothing to do with us. maybe they're just enjoying something in a way we don't personally like, or maybe they're having a bad day, or maybe they have habits or personality quirks that rub us the wrong way-- and they aren't thinking about how it impacts us at all! and in many situations, they shouldn't have to! it's not a person's job to make sure they never do anything that could be perceived as annoying to anyone else.

and learning to tolerate feeling annoyed is crucial. de-escalating your own sensation of annoyance and refusing to treat it as harm/discomfort is an important step in getting along with other people and guarding your perception of your own acceptance and belonging. many people on tumblr express social anxiety-- and i gotta tell you, if you keep legitimizing your own annoyance all the time as a serious problem (instead of a small thing to vent to a friend about/get over/ignore), then you are also going to end up fearing that you are frequently annoying to other people! that which you see CONSTANTLY as a problem in other people you will increasingly worry about in yourself.

if you can live with being annoyed sometimes and treat it like it's not a big deal, it will be easier to accept and believe that the times you are naturally, as a human, annoying in some small way to other people are not actually a huge crisis where everyone hates you and is thinking badly about you. you can live with knowing sometimes people just clash a little and can be mature enough to brush it aside and see past it!

Still yet again thinking about how video games to Bart Allen are tools to calibrate speed. Despite the GAG in the comics that he plays them so fast he breaks them, video games do not behave like this. There is only so fast a video game can go no matter how quickly Bart pushes the buttons.

Bart can play them very well, his reflexes are quicker than the game itself, he thinks faster than a computer, but he cannot make a video game operate faster than it was programmed to go.

The video games in all actuality help Bart slow down and ground him to "normal speed".

Max doesn't understand this, and he never tries to learn this, and that is why it is so frustrating when he claims Bart's skills in games is just because he is fast and he actually doesn't have any talent. Poor Bart doesn't have the ability to defend himself properly from people determined to not understand him or how his powers work.
