Issues with infinite black screen in Sims 3? Here's your solution!

For whatever reason, people who are on the Steam version of Sims 3 (1.67) (edit: also people on EA app have reported this issue!) are experiencing issues with the game since the latest windows 11 update. It'll start up and get stuck on a black screen forever.

Luckily the solution is simple: your core mods are causing this issue. So far both Nraas Errortrap and Simler90's core mod have been known to be at the root of this. If you have these mods, take them out and try starting your game again. Problem fixed without these mods in your game? Then you're running the wrong version of these mods and for whatever reason since the newest windows update this will break your game.

Replace them with the correct versions here:

Download the Steam version of Simler90's mod here.

Download the Steam version of Errortrap here (click the steam icon).

Using these instead of whatever version you used first should fix your issue.

Disclaimer: there might be other (core) mods causing your issue. If you're still facing the problem even when taking Simler90 and Errortrap out, then you'll have to do some more searching to find your culprit. Check the comments in this post for additional mods that were found to cause issues + solutions. Also comment how you fixed your issue if it's different from what you read here.

UPDATE (16/03/2026): Instead of downloading the correct versions of your core mods, you can also just press ALT + TAB to find the windows message hiding behind your black screen. When you click 'continue', the game will launch as normal and your mods should work fine as before. Thank you @angieplayssims3 for pointing this out.

MULTIPLE CREATORS ON MTS/MOD THE SIMS HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED

A few hours ago, Kuttoe sent an announcement in Sims After Dark that NateTheL0ser's MTS account was compromised with several uploads containing a new script file called "silkrose_debug" that attempts to download files from a third-party website. It was confirmed that more creators have had their accounts compromised in the second announcement.

It would be highly recommended to avoid the site completely until everything is back to normal. And if you really want to download something, do so at your own risk. Make sure to scan your PC and download ModGuard. If either of them have detected something, delete it and immediately change all of your passwords. And in a worst case scenario, wipe your OS and change your passwords from a different, uninfected device.

Decor and clothing should not have script files included!

Current list of confirmed, affected creators: PurrSimity, jellyheadDimbulb, and NateTheL0ser (has regained control of their account, however you should still be VERY cautious), o_pedrão (on LoversLab, intentionally malicious)

Most, if not all of the members of the Holy Llama Church come from troubled families and/or pasts. The newest addition, Collin, a hotheaded musician and art student, comes from a wealthy family. His mother, a well-beloved TV actress, decided it was best for Collin to have some stability in his life. So she pulled some strings and asked the local priest if her son could stay with him. Collin doesn’t have many opinions on religion, but the snacks and the members at the church aren’t too bad. What’s the worst that can happen? It’s not like he is going be indoctrinated in some weird llama cult right? Right!?

The Cult Leader: Father Virgil Sainte

With the last name, Sainte, you would assume that Virgil was meant for the role of Father. But, unfortunately, you would be very wrong. Sainte is anything but a saint. Not much is known about Virgil, other than that he seemingly appeared out of nowhere. He established his own parish from the remains of the abandoned church at Canyon Skies. He is cunning, manipulative, and very charming. If Father Virgil believes it, then his followers will eventually come to believe it too. Virgil hand-selects his favorite victims worshippers to come live with him at his compound. It’s not much, but his followers aren’t in a position to refuse his generous offer.

SFS Hack

For the sake of keeping this a bit shorter I've decided to create this post and link to the original, much reblogged post about this matter. its contains a lot of info thats definitely worth a read(!) but for now: Factsheet:

SFS uploads are currently NOT possible (see above).

CC (custom content) files ALWAYS end with .package.

Script mods files ALWAYS end in .ts4script

On Windows: if a CC folder on SFS or downloaded zip file contains a .exe do not run it! immediately remove it and empty your trashcan/bin.

On Mac: If a CC folder on SFS or downloaded ZIP file contains a .dmg do not open it and drag it into your App folder! Immediately remove it and empty your bin.

For creators: change your password if you have a SFS account, always use a randomly long(!) generated password (LastPass, Password (Apple)!

My own downloads are also stored on Dropbox.

I only use SFS as a 2nd link for all my downloads so if you download then use the Dropbox links for now. if you do use SFS then pay attention to the following:

If any zip or package file from me has been updated in march/April 2025 (at SFS):

Do not DOWNLOAD the file/zip from SFS and please let me know!!! ( I still have to check ALL folders manually for this...)

i've seen a lot of gross shit on simblr before but all of that feels fucking minuscule in comparison to what i just found. the cc creator @squaresverse aka satanshubby on instagram made this disgusting fucking cc using the autopsy photo of a murdered 4 year old boy.

and if that wasn't bad enough, they have this cc paywalled so they can profit off of it too.

the boy in the photo wasn't identified until late 2022, over 60 years since he was brutally murdered and left nude on the side of a road and just the thought of someone seeing this picture which is clearly of a beaten child and deciding it fits their streetwear aesthetic and would go great on their cc is nauseating. i cannot begin to describe how evil this is.

Two of EA’s biggest mistakes:

- They gave us The Sims 3 but no 64bit version. Limiting the game to roughly 3.7GB of ram before it crashes. And it supposedly has a RAM leak (I always wonder if it just increases the longer you play until it reaches your pc’s limit)

- They gave us The Sims Medieval but no legacy style gameplay with it. The ultimate reward for completing all quests would be a full blown The Sims Medieval Legacy gameplay..
