I have one really special shiboridashi that made it into the soda kiln. It’s a traditional styled shibo, unlike the picture I am posting, but the cool thing about it is that the little knob is a miniature teapot! I made these bowls maybe 3 years ago but they are still some of my favorites of all time! They are all porcelain with the same glaze fired on different shelves of the kiln. It’s amazing what a glaze and a specific placement can do! _______________________________________ In other news the kiln is firing nicely, il be taking some videos while we spray in the soda tonight so keep an eye on my stories! I don’t think I have ever wish I had kept something after I sold it until this Yunomi. That being said I’m glad someone else is enjoying it (I also have way more pottery than someone needs already). I put 1 teapot this size into the next soda firing. I’m moving away from making work this large but I was demoing a teapot for an online class I was teaching. There are some really amazing effects you can achieve in a Raku firing. This white crackle glaze is just two simple ingredients, 75% gerstley borate, 25% nepheline syenite. It produces an amazing white (after you scrub all the excess carbon on the surface off). Who here enjoyed doing Raku firings? I had a bunch of shiboridashi in this Raku firing.. they were intended for the soda kiln but they all had some sort of flaw. I was recently told about something I could put on these to make them food safe... there is one (that the glaze managed to fix completely) that I wouldn’t mind doing that to.
