me, unloading a fitted sheet from the dryer: *squinting* what's that you've got in your mouth
fitted sheet: nothing :)))))))
me, prying open its twisted jaws: na-ah!!! give it to me RIGHT now!!
fitted sheet: *resentfully spits out a wad of 3 very damp dishtowels, a pillowcase, and a pathetically sodden washcloth*
Kudos to this post, I think of you every time I do my fucking laundry

I am REALLY needing anything good, even if itâs just 5 cents on the floor
the thing folks living in Christian dominant cultures gotta realize is that even if youâre not Christian, your basic understanding of religion and spirituality and morality is still being filtered through a Christian lens. your very concept of what religion is and does is filtered through that lens.
This is what I call cultural Christianity, for those who are still confused
âBut everyone celebrates christmas.â No. No we donât.
âReligion is based on complete blind submission and not asking any questions everâ
No. Thatâs Christianity.
âReligion is totally focused on the afterlife and getting into heaven and avoiding hellâ
Nope. Christianity again.
âReligion is about pushing your beliefs on others and trying to get them to convertâ
Still Christianity.
Actually thatâs even more specific - thatâs Calvinism, which predominates in America. America isnât just culturally Christian,itâs culturally Calvinist, which very specifically focuses on submission, the fear of damnation, and conversion. Itâs also not just any old Calvinism, but a very rigidly puritanical variety thanks to our roots.
There are other culturally Christian countries, which are of other denominations and therefore have a slightly different bent. England is culturally Anglican, Germany is culturally Lutheran, Italy and Spain are culturally Catholic, Russia is culturally Orthodox, etc. However, even the cultural Catholicism of Italy is different from, say, the cultural Catholicism of Ireland.
So even here, we need to be careful not to filter other culturesâ Christianities through what is a very Americanized (via @queertilly) Christianity, and vice versa with other countries. Speaking as an American, even our concept of what Christianity is has been Americanised.

bill off the poop water again
I want to point out that this is something thatâs been largely misrepresented to make it look like Bill is disagreeing with paying more tax. Heâs not saying her idea is bad. He agrees with more of his money being used to help people. Heâs saying that most billionaires use âcreativeâ methods to avoid paying the tax they should already, so to just focus on increasing tax isnât addressing the actual problem, that many of these people should already be paying a lot more than they are, and constantly find ways around it. https://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/everybody-talking-about-tax-bill-gates-pokes-holes-in-extreme-tax-idea/news-story/48b324ddbf03e97ef5c7c69f1682f01a The problem is, the headlines are very deliberately being written in a way to make it look like a smart guy like Bill is saying âAOC is wrong about everythingâ, when heâs actually saying âI agree with her idea in principle, but if you donât close the tax loopholes, it wonât work as well as it shouldâ.
finding out people dont usually add numbers by first adding something to make a ten (for example 7+6= 7 plus 3 is 10 plus another 3 is 13) & that its actually an adhd thing is the WILDEST shit literally ive lived like 10 years (or however old i was when i learned to add and stuff) thinking thats how everyone does it. what the fuck
What
Itâs also an autism thing, apparently.
W H A T
Oh yeah! This is also part of why autistic people/people with adhd struggle in math classes. Our brains process math and numbers in a totally different way. Many people on the spectrum struggle with the âshow your workâ part of math because we canât exactly tell you why it works/how it works. We just kinda do it
I absolutely do things like this for equations I havenât memorised. I was explaining how I decipher 24 hour time to somebody recently, by subtracting 2 from the second number for 13-19, then basically doing the inverse for 20-21 (i.e. 20-2=18, take the second number, 8pm, or 21-2=19, take the second number itâs 9pm), and then also knowing that for the same thing with 22-24, you replace the first 2 in the subtraction total with a 1 (24-2=22, replace the first 2 is 12). And the person I was explaining it to was like âThatâs so complicated OMG! Why donât you just subtract 12????â And I was like âUmâŠyeah my brain canât do that.â
anyway, the 8 hour workday and the concept of â8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours recreationâ is outdated and based on the lives and needs of married straight men who had a wife at home doing all the unpaid domestic labor, childcare, and elderly care. We should all be fighting for a 4 hour workday tbh
Research suggests that in an eight-hour day, the average worker is only productive for two hours and 53 minutes.
The workday and how we work are intimately related to productivity, yet more hours may not lead to increased focus, concentration, and succe
They did an experiment with a 6 hour workday in Gothenburg, on a nursing home. The staff became happier and healthier and the elderly also became happier and more content because the staff could focus more on their needs when they werenât overworked and tired. The staff felt they had more time and energy towards the elderly.
Recently there was an article about a care home in Stockholm were they âââover hiredâââ (I would argue they just hired enough people), that is they added 1,5 full time staff member. There was an economic gain, not only in health for the workers but also with fewer temps, less overtime and less time wasted on constantly educating new people.
The 8 hour workday was met with the same ridicule a 6 hour workday would. Once, the upper class thought that 14 hour days were reasonable because the poor would just get into trouble if they had time off. Even when thereâs actually net gain from caring about their workers, employers prefer making them miserable and paying the cost in new hires, medical costs and poor performance. People have fought and died for our free time and our weekends, even when we know a healthy worker is a healthy company.Â
So itâs not strange, nor unbelievable, to take that fight again. Thereâs nothing holy or special with an 8 hour workday. It isnât set in stone. It could be done.
Iâm all about that fight, what can we do?

No. Hollywood has an older man problem.
this is so gross
I wish I could remember the name of the actress who went ballistic after being told that, at 35, she was too old to play the love interest for the 55-year-old lead.
It was Maggie Gyllenhall. And I stand corrected, she was 37.

I kinda love how every time we make something thatâs decent at walking and can stand on itâs own, our very next idea is âMAKE IT DANCE!â

The way I know Paul Ryan straight-up has no soul is that he didnât change at all after his favorite band said they hated him. The music of my favorite band is one of the most meaningful and precious things in the world to me. If I said they were my favorite band and they responded with disgust and told the world that not only do they dislike me personally but that I must have missed the core thesis of their body of work because it has always been specifically about how my values and actions are unambiguously evil, that would be the end of the person I am today. Tomorrow, every single aspect of my personality wouldâve changed. I donât think I could even keep the same name Iâve got now. The fact that hearing his favorite band express unbridled contempt for him as a human being and for everything he stands for didnât absolutely destroy Paul Ryan and cause him to immediately retire, relocate to a new city, and dedicate the rest of his life to becoming literally anyone but Paul Ryan, tells me he cannot possibly have any emotions whatsoever.Â
