You think to yourself as you look up at the looming and intimidating large building of Kimetsu University. A paper was clenched to your chest before you look down at it, rereading the map you printed of the main building's layout so you wouldn't get lost.
Or, that was the intention at least, before the wind decided to blow it out of your hands, and you watched in horror as it danced away, down the street far away from you.
Well, there was no use overthinking things. You could figure out the rest later. With a firm tug on your jacket, you begin walking towards the main building's large glass entrance with a determined expression.
A little setback can't ruin your orientation! After all, it would be bad luck to start your very first semester off on the wrong foot!
Inside, the halls were surprisingly empty, though the semester hadn't started yet, as you decided to go to orientation early to better prepare. There was one or two occasional people who passed by, but no one you recognized.
You were honestly counting on the fact that there would be signs to guide the new students to the meeting room where the orientation was being held. But nope, the walls were barren of useful directions. Maybe your luck wasn’t the best today.
Instead, you picked a direction and began walking down it.
Left.
You decided to head to the left, after all since nothing’s going right might as well.
You follow a long corridor into a new building labeled the Health and Sciences building. Well…maybe orientation was taking place there? Nope, just wishful thinking once again. But at least you could run into someone and ask for directions.
The building split into two wings. Health and Science.
Health
You decide to go down the health wing. Medical students were always studious and often crammed, so, surely there was someone around you could ask for directions.
A little further down the hallway, you found a small study area where a guy sat on a sofa, textbooks laid out in front of him and he was typing away at his laptop.
His hair was a raven black color, long and worn in a loose ponytail with messy bangs. His eyes were a deep blue, his expression stoic and almost serene as he typed away, lost in focus.
“You’re staring.” He muttered quietly, glancing over at you. You stiffened in response, laughing it off with a nervous smile.
“Sorry, I wasn’t sure if I should bother you or not about directions for orientation?”
His fingers stilled on the keyboard of the laptop, staring at you as if deep in thought about something.
“Very well. I’ll lead you there.” He stood up, shutting his laptop before gesturing with a single motion of his arm for you to follow him as he led you towards the meeting room where orientation was being held.
The walk was strangely silent, and you couldn’t tell if it was because he caught you staring at him, or if he just wasn’t the social type. Though, he noticed your silence, glancing at you from the corner of his eyes.
It wasn’t until that the two of you arrived at the orientation room that he spoke, opening the door for you.
“Best of luck. I was nervous when I first started to. You’re welcome to come seek me out if you need any more assistance.”
You thanked him with a relieved smile, stepping into the meeting room.
Science
You decide to go down the science wing, surely there must be someone in one of the labs, right? Much to your surprise, there actually is someone in one of the labs.
You gently knock on the doorframe of the open door to catch the guy’s attention, as he was busy looking at some models of animal anatomy. He turned to look at you.
He had raven black hair that reached his shoulders, fading into deep blue tips. Though what really caught your interest was his eyes, they were a soft sage green color, with thick lashes. He definitely had feminine facial features.
“What do you want? I’m not the professor.” He answered in a blunt tone, his eyes narrowing at you as he sized you up.
“I was looking for the room they’re holding the orientation in?” You began, feeling slightly uncomfortable in the way he was almost gawking at you.
“Tch. As if I know. I got lost and ended up here.” He crossed his arms over his chest before he began striding past you, out into the corridor. You watched him as he walked away, your eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.
Though, when he noticed you weren’t following, he stopped and turned around.
“Well, come on. We’re not going to find it if we keep standing around.”
Reluctantly you began following after him, head tilted to the side as you studied him. He seemed rather open but reserved at the same time, but he wasn’t making too much conservation than what was necessary.
Eventually, the two of you managed to find the orientation room, as he exclaimed in celebration.
“I knew I could find it! Who needs dumb maps?!” He pumped a fist in the air, as you hesitantly agreed. Not because you were uncomfortable, but rather because you had a map earlier.
“Hey, quit daydreaming! Let’s go in!” He grabbed your arm as he abruptly pulled you out of your thoughts and into the orientation room.
Right.
You decided to go right, as your map of the college left you earlier. Lucky for you, you didn’t need to go far before a student was already walking down the hallway, a bright grin on his face before he looked over at you, noticing your confused expression.
“You must be a first year! Are you lost?”
He offered you a smile, stopping to speak with you. He had yellow and orange wild hair resembling a flame, thick eyebrows and orange and yellow eyes to match. His presence was rather comforting, easing your first day anxiety almost immediately as you smiled back at him.
“Actually…yes I am. I was trying to look for the orientation room.” You ruffle your hair out of habit, feeling a bit bashful.
He gave a curt nod, an earnest expression on his face.
“Look no further! I will be your personal guide! Come!” He turned on his heel, his small ponytail moving with his motions as he began striding confidently down the hallway like he owned it.
“Kyojuro Rengoku! I’m a second year in Japanese History! Specifically because I like the passion of the samurai! They’re noble and earnest, fighting with a burning energy of honor!” He animatedly exclaimed, talking to you as if you two had known each other forever.
“Y/N L/N, I’m studying English Literature. I’m hoping to become a novelist in the near future.” You answered back, any traces of nerves immediately soothed away.
“English Literature! What a passionate major! Storytelling has been a tradition for many decades, it’s only fair to keep passing on the flame!”
The two of you continued chatting your entire way, and before you knew it, you had arrived to the meeting room with a big pop-up sign labeled ‘First Year’s Orientation.’
“Thank you for helping me out, Kyojuro.” You offered him a warm smile, which he reciprocated.
“No need to thank me! If you need anymore help, I’m usually in the humanities building! Feel free to stop by!” He gave you a wave before disappearing down the corridor where the two of you came from.
Wait
You decided to just stand at the fork and wait for someone to pass by. Within a few minutes, two students were chattering amongst themselves, heading to your direction.
You waved as you took a step closer to them, both of the men stopped to turn and look at you.
One had vibrant yellow hair with orange tips and x eyes with a nervous expression on his face. The other had a warm smile, deep red eyes and burgundy hair.
“Is everything alright?” The guy with the warm smile spoke first, giving you his full attention while the other guy was frantically fidgeting next to him.
“I kinda lost my map, so I’m not sure where the orientation for first years is taking place. Would you two happen to know where it is?”
The guy with yellow and orange hair’s eyes widened in surprise. “You’re a first year too?! We’re heading to the room right now, we better hurry or we’re going to be late!”
He ran off, down the hallway, leaving you with your eyes wide with surprise while the guy with a friendly expression smiled at you.
“He’s always like that, don’t worry about him. Come, let’s go together.” He gestured towards the hallway, falling into step beside you as the two of you walked.
“What’s your name? I’m Tanjiro Kamado, it’s nice to meet you.” He held out a hand for you to shake, taking you by surprise by his formality.
“Oh, I’m Y/N, L/N. I’m glad I caught you two, I thought I was going to miss orientation for sure!” You reach out and take his hand, offering it a quick squeeze before releasing it, not wanting to dwell on how it made your cheeks warm up.
“Then it’s a good thing we ran into each other. Usually it means we’re fated to become friends.” He offered you a warm smile, turning forward as you two reached the meeting room.
“Seems like Zenitsu already went inside. After you.” He opened the door, gesturing with his free hand to let you in.
