Batman!Dami and his coworker who keeps flirting with him while on duty (they’ve been married for 7+ years)
Cuteee~
I know some artists are uncomfortable making fanart from fics if they haven't asked first, so I'm just gonna throw it out as a reminder that if you feel inspired to draw anything from any of my writing--that's fics or little shorties or any of my posts--you are absolutely more than welcome to.
The only thing I ask is to @ me so I can fangirl over it properly and spread it around so others may see it too.
Authors, if you feel this way, I highly recommend putting a blanket permission statement on your AO3 profile. (this also goes for things like podfic, remixes, translations, and anything else that you feel like including).
Artists, if you feel awkward asking (although 99% of authors would probably be thrilled!) look on their profile page to see if they have a blanket permission statement.
A permission statement is a way that you, as a creator, can tell other creators what you do and do not allow others to do with your work.
It's really helpful to share that information in an easily-accessible and permanent place because reblogging a post on tumblr or adding a tag to a post is only going to be seen by the people who catch that post when you put it up. Someone coming along 6 months or 2 years or a decade later will have no idea. Plus, you might have changed your mind in the intervening time.
It can be intimidating, difficult, or even impossible to directly ask someone if they'll allow you to create something based on their work, so a permission statement makes it all so much easier.
If you want to read more about permission statements, there's an article on Fanlore.
If you want to see what they look like, you can take a look at mine on my own AO3 account. Feel free to copy it and modify it however suits you.
Or you can make use of tools like @fanworkspermissionstatement that can help you build your own from the ground up.
(I got 4 podfics last year from absolute strangers, and all of them felt comfortable doing that because of my permission statement. just sayin')
go watch (and read) project hail mary right now. this instant. go go go . go. go.
in a world where grace eventually goes back to earth when erid is ready to make full contact. he's officially an eridian and earth dual citizen and is a physically very old man. it's also been a lot of earth years since he was here, especially due to time dilation. he comes off the eridian lander in a hoverchair accompanied by rocky in his little xenonite suit and is like wow, fresh air. rocky isn't it so beautiful here. rocky this is the ground i used to walk on. rocky this is the food i used to eat. rocky these are the people you helped me save. amaze amaze amaze.
and his speech has taken on eridian habits from years of only really communicating in eridian: he drops and raises octaves to show emotion, he's speaks melodically and with a rythmn that pings as music when you first hear it. his creaky old man voice is that of somebody who has spent their whole life singing, somebody who speaks for a living, because he's both of those things. his syntax is strange and his sentences are structured oddly. he looks around at everything with the delight and wonder of somebody who thought he'd never see any of this again.
he watches a sunset. he watches the rain fall. he watches a spider spin a web. he watches a waterfall. he smells and tastes and feels and sees and hears all of the things he left behind. he misses his home on erid. he's never been happier to be anywhere in his life. it's strange. rocky, it's strange. this isn't home, anymore. but it's still part of me. rocky, it's strange.
there's a statue of him in every major city he visits. he stands in front of the school he used to teach at, which was named after a dead president when he was here. now it's called ryland grace memorial middle school. it was named for him as the sun got brighter and the earth mourned his sacrifice yet again, but praised him for saving them. the lab he used to teach in, on the days he got to lead practical experiments, is named after rocky. rocky, it's for you! they love you, too! rocky, this sign is for you, it says your name!
eva stratt is an old woman, now. she was pardoned, in the end, in the wave of relief that followed the beatles' arrival with the taumeba. she's lived out the rest of her life quietly, ambition tamped down in the wake of it all. she's still sharp. harsh. she greets grace with an, "I told you so," but even after so many years, grace can see that she's glad to see him. glad he survived. glad he doesn't seem angry with her.
and it's not that grace has forgive her. he explains this to her over a cup of strong, black coffee. rocky explores the forest to give them time to speak. it's not that he forgives her. what she did, the decision she made for him, it wasn't right. it wasn't good. it saved the world, yes, but it wasn't fair. but. but, he says. i have a good life. i have friends. i have a classroom. i know now that you were wrong about me, back then. i am not a coward, and i am not selfish. i was afraid. i was terrified. i was lost. and now i am none of those things. i do not forgive you, but i am not angry with you, either. it is what it is. rocky and i, we saved two worlds. i can live with that, even if i don't forgive you. and eva stratt nods and understands. and they finish their coffee.
a handful of grace's students, the last class he taught before being wrapped up in the end of the world, they ask to see him. not all of them. some of them didn't make it through the disasters that came with the years long dimming. some of them never really believed that grace was the one who saved the world, falling into the rhetoric of those who say the whole thing was a hoax, and the weather patterns fixing themselves is just proof of it. but the ones who do come are surprised when grace remembers each of their names. remembers where they sat in his classroom, and the jokes they thought were funny and the jokes they thought were lame. they talk to him and he remembers throwing them beanbags in the end of the world and trying to make them laugh. when grace laughs at something rocky sings into the world, he's laughing through more than a few tears. he tells his students, the kids he saved the world for, that they've just been called leaky blobs by the other savior of the world.
when his students leave, grace sits in the setting sun, strong and warm, and looks out over the ocean. rocky, isn't it beautiful? rocky, don't you see? we made this possible, rocky. we saved them. we saved this. rocky, we did it.
and for maybe the first time since it all started, grace believes it. rocky, we did it. we did it. we saved them. we did it.
people say the Brucie Wayne persona isn’t believable but if I caught Bruce Wayne drunkenly lying under a desk in an office he shouldn’t have access to with a ream of secure documents and he replied to my “Mr. Wayne?” with “Mr. Wayne was my father—oh god, my father” and then started sobbing, I would 100% back away and leave him alone. like that shit would work on me every time.
What happens when Grace doesn’t sleep for 48 hours.

I grew up in a cult - DC X DP prompt
Danny had to escape his home dimension due to the GIW hurting him too badly during one of their little hunts, causing the ancients to deem Danny’s dimension too dangerous for him. Clockwork gave him a hand making up an identity in another dimension (DC), but he failed to tell Danny that this dimension was nothing like his, and Danny, so focused on getting himself back to his feet and going unnoticed, doesn’t notice that’s the case on his own.
He’s overwhelmed by how much more advanced technology is in this dimension, and with much reason, they’re like XX years over his dimension, but at least he doesn't have to worry about sustainance, since Clockwork placed him on Gotham's academy Scholarship list, and the school is providing for all the basics. He would cry if he had to figure out a job in a place so much more advanced than his own dimension.
This is incredible.
Danny's excuses would be like cartoon level since back in his dimension they work.
There was a loud crash, and when people looked over, Danny was standing too many feet away from a cabinet that had spilled over, and he smiled and said, "Oops, tripped on my shoelaces and dropped everything. I'll clean it up." Sir, you were nowhere near that; say it broke on its own.
He is handed a cup of hot chocolate, but the moment his hand closes around it, it ices the contents. By the time the other person took a sip of their still-steaming cup, they would notice and ask why his wasn't steaming. He says something like, "Oh, how expensive everything is, even boiling water is too much, so mine is made with lukewarm water. Ha ha ha," as if the other person didn't buy the drinks from the same place and that made any sense.
Danny does not understand how to use touchscreen things and is trying to find a keyboard that connects to everything. He assumes Bluetooth is dangerous and says, "You don't want to open the gateway to a traveling invader!" "I promise a virus will come through Bluetooth." "What?! Virus can jump!? I thought that only happened on adult sites! Nowhere is safe!"
he's a 14 year old in 2004 he's allowed to say that to his arch enemy
PSYCHE i finally thought of a good way to express this idea I have for Danny B Fenton
EDIT: FIXED DIALOGUE
I feel like my version of Danny manages to avoid getting Vivisected (I know. Blasphemy/j) and Clockwork celebrates this fact in a very. Unintentionally Ominous way (Also experimental Adult Danny design IG?)
Steph: Anyway, see ya!
Sam: *watching her leave* Who was that?
Dammy: Oh that's Steph. She brakes into my apartment sometimes and I give her food. She's like a strange stray cat, with a mean right hook.
Sam: You just let her break into your apartment?
Danny: *shrugs* Honestly I'm half convinced shes a Luck Nymph. Since she started coming around my appartment hasn't been stolen from, my landlord finally addressed the mold issue I was concerned about, my balcony railing got fixed, I got a job offer from Wayne Enterprises, and I got to have a conversation with Red Hood about that one gang I saw running around the bay, the ones that I told you look like Joker Minons but I'm pretty sure they're only using the Joker for more cred and have nothing to actually do with him?
Sam: ...Have I ever told you that you're way too unbothered about stuff?
Danny: Many times!
Sam: Cool, I'm gonna say it again in hopes that this time it sticks: You, Daniel Fenton, Are Way Too Unbothered About Stuff.
Starboy- DCxDP AU - part 1
Original Post
Word count- 983
It started with a few strange moments in the sky. A light that streaked across the night in a bright arch. Like a shooting star.
Many tried to photograph this phenomenon but only resulted the fuzzy images.
The investigation bared fruit eventually as in the space between the moon and earth a boy was bound. A pale boy this green flushed cheeks and spatterings of glowing freckles swam though the dark. His hair a snowy white like soft fox fur. In his hand he eagerly clutched a green light that peeked through the gapes between his fingers.
You would not believe it but as he let it go the light sparked to life and burned bright for only a few seconds before burning away. His disappointment was clear but he shrugged it off and flew elsewhere.
The Watchtower's telescope was able to capture the moment only by coincidence because the boy's heat signature was absent. Not cold, just no heat.
This "Starboy" (they didn't name him that) began appearing in various places on earth. Not as a flying light but as a explorer it seemed. He walked the streets carelessly and flew from rooftop to rooftop. The wanderer gained notoriety as people became obsessed with his alien appearance. He never talked to anyone, he just smiled and waved before taking off again.
An unknown alien child was cause for concern for the League. It could be a Superman situation, where he had been raised on Earth or it could be a Starfire situation, where he had come here on his own. Both possibilities were better than the alternative: that he had come to destroy the planet.
His behavior was not that of a world-destroyer, at least not to Kori.
Starboy definitely had power. She had just watched him use the energy of a star—a starbolt, just like hers.
Starboy definitely had power. She had just watched him use the every of a star. A starbolt, just like her's. She had to meet him.
Koriand’r did not wait for permission.
The moment he rose again into the sky, she followed.
At first, she kept her distance, studying him the way one might approach a frightened creature. One moment he drifted lazily above the clouds, the next he vanished in a streak of light that tore across the sky.
Koriand’r smiled.
Then she gave chase.
The air screamed as she broke through it, her body igniting with familiar heat. A blazing orange trail followed in her wake, bright and burning like a piece of the sun itself. Ahead of her, his light—bright, green-tinted white, shimmered as it cut through the dark.
Faster.
She pushed harder, the world below dissolving into blur and color. Oceans, cities, clouds, they all melded together.
For a moment, she thought she might lose him.
Then—
He slowed.
Not by much, just enough.
Enough for her to see the tilt of his head as he glanced back.
He had noticed.
Koriand’r surged forward, closing the distance until she flew beside him. For a brief, impossible second, they matched pace, two streaks of light racing across the curve of the Earth.
He laughed.
It was bright. Clear. Surprised.
And then he darted forward again.
A challenge.
Koriand’r’s eyes lit with delight.
“Oh, you wish to race?” she called, though she did not know if he could hear her over the roar of their passage. “Very well!”
She lunged after him, faster still, her flames flaring brighter as she gave everything to the chase. His trail twisted and curved unpredictably, weaving through the sky in playful arcs, never quite letting her catch him, yet never truly escaping either.
This was no pursuit.
It was a game.
And for the first time since she had seen him, Koriand’r understood.
He was not fleeing.
He was playing.
"From below, their race looked like twin shooting stars streaking across the sky before their arcs finally broke.
“Starboy” let out a laugh as he twisted and turned on a dime, forcing Starfire to give chase after the wily boy. He spiraled around her in tight, effortless loops before suddenly diving toward the sea below, only to shoot right back up again in a burst of light.
The moon illuminated his opaline form as Koriand’r lunged forward and tackled him.
They tumbled together through the air, spinning for a brief, dizzying moment before she caught herself, hovering as she held onto him.
This joy.
She had missed it.
It was like she was back on Tamaran, where her people lived unrestrained, where laughter rang freely and brightly through the air.
For a moment, she simply looked at him.
Up close, he was even more unusual. The soft glow of his freckles pulsed faintly, like distant stars, and that strange green-white light flickered beneath his skin as if something inside him radiated from deep within.
He did not struggle.
Instead, he grinned at her.
“You are pretty fast, lady,” he said, laughter still lingering in his voice as the Tamaranean held him beneath his arms.
Koriand’r beamed at him, her bright eyes alight with delight. “And you are very difficult to catch,” she replied, her grip firm but not unkind. “I have never raced one such as you before.”
He didn’t seem bothered by being held, if anything, he kicked his legs idly.
“You almost had me,” he added, grinning up at her. The glowing freckles across his cheeks shimmered faintly in the moonlight. “Almost.”
Koriand’r laughed, the sound warm and full. “Then you must allow me to try again.”
His eyes lit up at that. So bright, curious, and full of mischief.
“Maybe,” he said, drawing the word out as the light gathered again between his fingers. “But you’ll have to keep up this time.”
Before she could respond, the glow flared and he slipped free of her grasp in a burst of green-white light.
Noelle, control it girl 🧐
i like to imagine the eridians having similar conversations that we're having about their alien
au where the taumoeba doesn't permeate xenonite, so grace never has to turn back for rocky.
he takes his four years completely alone, with coma slurry and taumoeba, steadily going mad as he loses all sense of self
he's fully nonverbal by the time he arrives on earth, overwhelmed by human presence, the space to move, the noise and color
he's mostly shielded from it -- they hospitalize him immediately, of course; he's emaciated and has scurvy, etc. Only he has a violent aversion to someone coming at him with a needle. terror, yes -- but cornered in a hospital room, there's nowhere to run. and he's not the same man that tried to run before. no, he grabs the closest thing to a weapon and tries to fight his way out. he is NOT letting them catch him again. he'd rather die!
he swipes some sweats on his way out and just. slips into anonymity. the savior of the world, the miraculous survivor of a suicide mission, and he didn't even stay long enough to be thanked, to be taken care of, to be healed
and once he gets out there, he realizes he doesn't even know what to do next except get away. he has no idea how to interact with society, how to ask for help or whether he can trust anyone. there's something cold living in the place his heart used to be. the part of him that always reached out for connection withered and died in those years of isolation with nothing but his memories for company. he doesn't feel human anymore. he feels like an alien that has landed on earth, some wild animal scurrying along the fringes
b plot of the world's top scientists trying to locate him and they keep trying to be very respectful and peaceful and everything and he reacts at a 12 every single time anyway, because it always brings him back to the day they sentenced him to death
only nobody seems to know that happened but him. everyone involved is either old, dead, or in prison.
c plot re: the taumoeba destroying the astrophage and the effects this has on the world
I wrote this while half asleep last night but I have had 1 william thoughts about it, so here's a little more:
(these were tagged onto the original post but are totally relevant:)
world's savior ends up at a soup kitchen somewhere and no one knows who he is
or if they do recognize him he doesn't acknowledge them anyway
the feral fox motif runs wild in this one. in fact he probably takes up the alias Fox whenever someone asks his name
I like to think old man Carl is the one to bring him back to himself. but if he ever saw Stratt again it'd send him into the stratosphere
it also just throws into sharp relief that there is nothing of his old life here. no one who knew him in any meaningful way is still around. his home, his job. everything is gone. even the world is different due to the astrophage. is he the alien -- or did he land on the wrong planet?(came back wrong trope....except everything else is also wrong)
but other more things:
he has plenty of neuroses due to being on his own for so long in a very understimulating environment. auditory/visual hallucinations kind of went rampant with him, but for the most part they abate once he reaches earth, except when he is back in a quiet or slow environment. he is also super paranoid about being hunted down and forced back onto the ship.
he has self harm scars on one arm (again related to understimulation, besides the heinous levels of depression.) on earth he doesn't feel the urge, or at least not as much, but he will stim with the texture of them, either running the pad of his thumb or his nails over the ridges
along with that, he's a fucking weirdo about eating. like food preferences is one part -- anything even remotely similar to the slurry or taumoeba paste is automatically rejected -- but he also refuses to be perceived while eating. ("turn around" "what? why?" "...eating's private.") There is a nonzero chance he mantles over his food with his hoodie like a bird (or hides it in his lapel whenever he takes a bite, a la that one snack video rg did where he refused to make more "eating" gifs)
he doesn't really have any goals besides Stay Away From *Them*, but in a way he is chasing down his old life and making his way back towards the school. he meets up with either an old colleague or a student who has grown. it's more than once that he asks her if she's real, or uses her as a litmus for other hallucinations
violent reactions to being touched after so long alone. bonus points if someone grabs his arm where Rocky did. not only is he crying at the realization that he hasn't been touched in so long, but it also hurts, and reminds him of his best friend who he'll never see again and that he lives in a world he doesn't recognize with people he doesn't know. he'll sit there rubbing his arm for hours afterward
he sent out a few of the beetles anyway, because they could travel faster than the hail mary, it would bring the vital information to earth sooner and the sun could start being saved...and because he didn't think he could trust himself. locked up with his memories and his own demons, he became very paranoid of being watched, and hostile toward the "watchers", which of course were Stratt and other perceived enemies. (There was a time when he was ambivalent toward Stratt, when he was in his right mind. but having nothing and no one, the bad began to outweigh the good until her memory was anathema in its entirety) In his calmer moments, he worries he'll destroy the logs and the earth's only chance along with it (and the computers. and the ship. and himself.)
there's also a through-line of media coverage. updates on the search. people snapping blurry photos of him, or people they think are him, and sending them to the news or the police or whoever is heading the search. interviews with scientists and psychologists explaining what they think is going on, information they've gathered from his video diary and the logs, tentative diagnoses, etc
fuck there was more but this is still a lot holy moly
I remembered more
he's also rediscovering earth in all of this. eating real food again (he cries). the sun and the trees. (he probably wouldn't shelter in the woods very much. he's feral in vibes only, he would not survive in the wild. but he still has to touch leaves and tree bark and flower petals and dig his fingers into the dirt until it reminds him of doing the same thing when They caught him.)
he's convinced the gravity is wrong
observations on astrophage- and antarctica-related climate change
he goes to the beach and is just quietly crying at being in his favorite kind of place but then the water actually washes over his feet and he freaks the fuck out because it's not supposed to be wet it's not supposed to be real (he gets mixed up about reality sometimes when so much of his connection to earth was through a screen)
