Why use a whole plane when you can fly one wing?
Since the days of the Wright Brothers, aviation engineers have experimented with the concept of a “flying wing” — a tailless fixed-wing aircraft with no definite fuselage. All the components and cargo of the plane are contained within the wing itself.
By eliminating every surface and feature that is not a lift-providing wing, the flying wing is, in theory at least, the most aerodynamic and efficient design possible.

Inspiring South African Homeless Man Sells Books on the Streets for a Living
Meet Philani Dladla, a 24-year-old bookworm who lives on the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa. Instead of panhandling to survive, the so-called "Pavement Bookworm" reads, reviews, and sells books in order to earn a living. The young man's deep appreciation for the value of books was sparked when he managed to rescue himself from drug addiction by reading self-help books. Now, Dladla acts as an unlikely book ambassador and role model for young people.
The Pavement Bookworm can be found wandering around Empire Road and nearby streets, carrying his expansive library of used books with him. Thanks to a video interview that South African filmmaker Tebogo Malope posted last November, many curious passersby now stop to chat with Dladla about different authors, novels, and themes. Some walk away with a new purchase, while others donate books to help support the reader.
While Dladla sells books to adults, he gives them away freely to children in the hopes of enriching their minds, spreading positive influence, and promoting reading among young people. "Reading is not harmful," he says in his interview with Malope. "There is no thing as harmful knowledge. This thing is only going to make you a better person."

The first day of school in a new academic year varies between different areas around the world because of the differences in weather, climate, season, and culture. September 1st is the back to school date for many countries in Central & Eastern Europe.
Why not spend the day curled up with a good book (or several)?

Mexico's Conarte Library Gets a New Dome Shaped Bookshelf You Can Sit In
For those who wish to be cocooned in books, there's a special book shelf in Monterrey, Mexico just for you.
Conarte, Monterrey's council for art and culture, approached design studio Anagrama to create a unique way to store books in their library. They wanted a creative way to showcase the books that felt both modern and intimate. The result is a bookshelf that seems to hug the room; the books are kept on their sides instead of upright. This gives the illusion that the whole thing is wrapping around the room. Visitors can sit on the stairs to read after grabbing a book from the shelf. View more photos

How To Be Happy According to 20 Authors
Writers have a reputation for being introspective, sensitive and passionate. Although the most prolific writers have a melancholic streak, we often forget that a writer is an observer of the human experience. Usually, writing is not born from happiness; it is nurtured by experience, struggle, survival, and inspiration.
“I don’t know what makes a writer, but it probably isn’t happiness.” -William Saroyan
